"We are a family of four and went in March…"
14-Oct-2011
We are a family of four and went in March of this year with a group of children (and their families) with Autism. My son was 7 and has Aspergers Syndrome, and my daughter was 3. My daughter was one of the youngest they have ever had. We spent 3 days and we loved it.
Within our group we did crate stacking & canoeing on the first full day, then the second we did rock climbing and abseiling and swimming. My daughter did all the activities except abseiling. All meals were provided as well as a very well trained guide.
There were evening entertainments like a dance with a DJ, and a live band along with a bar.
The accommodation however wasn't set up for a family. All the beds were single ones and my husband and I had to sleep in different rooms. The bathroom was a full wet room with a shower with a seat if needed. The room we stayed in had a small kitchen.
We would love to go back again and just going for those couple of days boosted my son's self confidence and esteem tenfold. He usually dislikes holidays and disruption to his routine but he loved the Calvert trust and has expressed number of times that he would like to go back.Read moreLessMumsnetter Lunasweets
