"My family (2 adults and three kids - 10, 9…"
18-Dec-2009
My family (2 adults and three kids - 10, 9 and 6)really enjoyed a week at Sylvamar in August 2009 with Thomson Alfresco. Their mobile homes are really well situated on the site - less than 2 mins walk to the swimming pool complex, shop and games room which meant the kids were able to go to the shop and games room on their own, which they really enjoyed. The pool complex was great - the best thing is that the whole pool was shallow enough for my six year old to stand up. He's a beginner swimmer so I really could allow him to go off and play without having to watch him the whole time. My eldest son and husband enjoyed regular games of football in the evening and a game of tennis, although a word of warning - the tennis courts get booked up really early, so it may well be worth booking before you set off for the holiday. The campsite restaurant was quite expensive but there are some great restaurants on the road leading to the nearest beach as well as mini-golf and other attractions. Would particularly recommend the Bodega which served up some mean seafood. The beach is lovely but the sea was really choppy whilst we were there and it's not great for swimming but on good days the beach is very close by and really long so not particularly crowded. We liked the area, particularly loved crossing the border and visiting San Sebastian which we'd definitely like to re-visit. Sylvamar was a great base to stay and visit this area of France and northern Spain. The Thomson caravans were comfortable and well equipped, although, as with many of these bigger sites, the pitches were not very big.
