Other mumsnetters comments: "With only a small selection of the leap pad books it has proved so much fun for both children aged six and four. They love all the activities and it is great for helping my four year old to start to read". "There's an extensive library of books available now and lots of different exercises and games to do with each book. My son's favourite is 'Scooby Doo' and my daughter loves the 'Incredibles'. This year I've bought my son the maths book to follow his interests. It's also a great toy for long car journeys."

I bought awhile back a My First Leappad for my daughter. I think it is good beacuse there is different activities books you can get for it. Some of these books are educational as well ie writing and maths. It will help my daughter when whe starts nursery. The only moan I have is that some of the books cost more than some others. So unless you are willing to pay more you are restriced on the books. Most of the books I have bought for it cost me about ?4.99 each, but some can cost you "9.99". So I do recommend shopping around for the books and grt the best bargains. Other than this, the leap pad is very good.

"Our 5 year old had started reading last year at…"
29-Oct-2008
Our 5 year old had started reading last year at school but the long holiday break meant that he was out of the daily routine of reading her book and the leap pad was just the catalyst that was needed to stop the nightly whinging about reading the school book. The deal is no leap pad reading, without the school book being read first. He now opens the leap pad his self and carries on playing with the lilly pads himself. It manages to keep him occupied for an hour without too much trouble. I would suggest that the best value from this 'toy' (or better described as an electronic aid to reading) is derived by actively participating in the reading. I can't wait to buy more books, but it is wonderful to see the progress my son has made in the very short time since we bought the leap pad.

A great toy for keeping little ones occupied both at home and in the car. My 4 year old daughter loves this. It is a great toy for helping with numbers, patterns and learning to spell. Well worth it and very robust too ... encouraging independence for setting up, switching on etc.

We werent overly impressed with this. The variety of books (in our area anyway) are limited.
The books are quite flimsy, and the leappad itself is quite temperamental.
We may have been unlucky with our particular one, but it is not something I'd recommend to anyone now.Read moreLessMumsnetter SaintJude

The children love it so much we've had to buy 2! Fantastic for the car and great for keeping them occupied in boring places (like the occasions I have to take them to the office). A new book gives it a whole new lease of life, without taking up heaps of space in the house. We love it!

Riveting for the children, and suitable for a wider age-range than advertised. My ds has been playing with his since he was nearly 3, and has started teaching his 2yo sister to play it. Very interactive and a lot going on in it, and can be developed easily for older children by buying new books.

This is excellent!
Both ny children have one.
My youngest has the my first LeapPad and my eldest son has the plus writing one.
It is very good for hand and eye co-ordination and listening and recognising letters and numbers.
The LeapPad plus writing is brilliant for writing skills and learning to put letters or numbers together to make small words or to start counting.
Most deffinetly value for money.Read moreLess1 person found this review helpful.

Little Touch Leap Pad: Great fun & learning toy which provdes much entertainment on long trips (plane & auto). Some books are better than others; my 20 month old loves Animal Dance, Bear in a Bedroom & A to Z Adventure.

my first leappad is for 3 - 5 year olds. It comes with one book but you can buy additional books for £10 (watch out for offers in woolworths and ELC - I got mine in WW for half price). My son is just 3 and got one for his birthday. He absolutely loves it. He can sit and 'read' with this on his own, so it give me a few minutes peace and he really enjoys the activities. We have the thomas book and a things that go/transport book in addition to the one included with the leappad. At £25 I think it was very good value.

It is a great toy! It teaches songs, numbers, letters, objects etc. My son who is 2.5 loves playing with it. He has My First LeapPad and lots of books to go with it. The only drawback is that the books are quite expensive - £10 each.
