"Brilliant toy or terrifying cannon?…"
29-Oct-2012
My daughter was given this for her first birthday. She'd had it about five minutes before she tried putting wooden bricks in it. This didn't seem such a good idea so we took the bricks away. She then tried plastic spoons.
Fortunately she can't push the based down to "set" the spring on her own and so she's only once actually managed to hit herself in the face with a hard plastic toy (i'd loaded it and she carefully took the soft frog out and put a truck in while my back was turned). So mostly this is a fun and safe toy. But is has the thrilling/terrfying potential to be used as a canon by a curious toddler.
For those who think that modern play is too safe and who fondly remember a childhood of lead action figures and bicycles without helmets they can leave their child alone with this toy to back in that nostalgia. Everyone else might want to surpervise their child carefully.Read moreLessMumsnetter ThroughTheRoundWindow

"A fantastic toy which my DD loves. She received it…"

A fantastic toy which my DD loves. She received it at her first birthday and has played with it everyday since. It doesn't keep her entertained for hours by any means - just a few minutes really - but it is a great toy to have in our toy 'arsenal' to help if she is upset and needs cheering up or having a tantrum and needs distracting. She has now reached the stage where she is trying to fit other toys and objects in it so that they can sprin out - which is very sweet, unless it is my mobile which is worrying! I wish i had it when she was about 8 or 9 months as i think a little child would really enjoy seeing the frog fly out of the box too.

"Traditional Jack in a box, but with a frog. It bizarrely seems to provide hours of entertainment for child (and parents as well)". "Both my children have absolutely loved this toy, though beware, they can easily make other heavier objects fly if you don't watch them". " A real development charter: at first they're a bit scared, then they laugh, then they work out how it works, then they start trying to scare you and make you laugh!" It is "a brilliant toy which lasts."

I think this is a fantastic toy my son first started playing with it in a local playgroup when he was about one year old. So i bought him one. He sat on my knee trying to frighten mummy with the frog jumping from the box and sat there chuckling for ages. Its very bright and fun too. When he got older he started asking questions about it and its taught him to say alot of words like he now calls it hide and seek. I think its a brilliant toy and my son still loves playing with it now and he's 2 and a half and his little sister loves it too.
