11-Mar-2009
I had a bean filled v-shaped pillow which was very long and could be squashed into different shapes. Very useful for propping me up in bed when sleeping got more uncomfortable.
After the baby was born, the beanbag pillow was really useful for breastfeeding. I would recommend these for women with bigger breasts as you can use thinner bits to put under the baby so as not to squash them!Read moreLessMumsnetter mrsbeng

Absolutely invaluable - I bought one from Argos 11 years ago when pg with dd1, it was still going strong when I had dd2 4 years ago and will be coming into service again soon for no.3. As a aid to comfortable sleep when pregnant, as a breastfeeding pillow and also just to support back and shoulders when sitting up in bed, this is probably one of the most used items in the house!

Best gift and value for money as not only used during your pregnancy but, for breast feeding and to this day, my almost 3 years old son is using it a pillow (feels a bit like a nest to him) so, yes, it is a gift that stays with you for a while:-)

Lots of people say the pillows are pointless, but I love them! Fab during pregnancy for helping get to sleep in a decent position, fab breastfeeding for propping up when your nipples are sore and you need just the right angle (rugby hold is amazing with a pillow), great for wedging up newly sitting babies.
Just fab.
My only issue is you either have side fastening covers which unpopper all the time, or end ones which are hell to fight on.Read moreLessMumsnetter BandMeeting

22-Feb-2009
This was the best present I was bought after DD was born, and I wished I'd had it while pregnant to help me sit/lie more comfortably with my dodgy pelvis and heavy belly. It would have avoided the multi-cushion mountain that I needed to stay comfy. In fact, that same mountain was in use to try to breastfeed in semi-comfort after a caesarean and I loved my new V cushion for alleviating me of the need for all of them. I think mine was an Argos one, and it could have done with more filling as I did need to prop it up for feeding with an extra cushion when DD was very small. It came everywhere with me...
(Great for using as a lap tray too for dinner in front of the TV!)Read moreLessMumsnetter hobnob57

I wouldn't be without mine, I used it to help me sleep more comfortably whilst pregnant and then as a breastfeeding cushion later on. I got a cheap one from argos and made some extra covers for it. They're great for when babies can sit by themselves but are still a bit wobbly, pop them inside the V and you are virtually guaranteed a soft landing!

Having used these myself, I bought one for a pregnant friend. she says it was the best thing anyone bought her as she used it all through her pregnancy to support her bump in bed, and then for breastfeeding afterwards; for the baby to lie on when small and as a back support in bed when older. They can also be used to prop the baby up when they are old enough.

I got a cheap one from argos which came with a washable cover a few years ago when i was pregnant with my first child and found it very useful. I used it in late pregnancy to support my bump whilst i was asleep. I found it great for breastfeeding and its good to use to prop yourself up in bed to read a book. I also use it along the edge of my bed to stop my baby rolling about too much as i co-sleep with him. Im still using it now after my 2nd child, it was a great buy.

Tchibo 'breastfeeding' pillow. The packaging shows a bottle feeding mum feeding her baby while resting on this breastfeeding pillow. It's got polystyrene beads inside which allegedly provide good support to the baby.
It's utterly rubbish, the beads move away from the baby so your baby just sags in a hole. It's only redeeming feature is the nice blue cover with little flowers on.Read moreLessMumsnetter whomovedmychocolate

24-Jan-2009
I love mine! I used it during pregnancy to prop me up on the sofa, or in bed while relaxing (no chance of getting to loll in bed now my daughter's here though!), and found it gave just enough support to make things more comfortable. Although breastfeeding didn't work out for us, my husband used the pillow to support and raise her head and body when bottlefeeding her, and found it really helpful. We also used it as a support when our daughter was learning to sit up on her own. If you're not sure what to get a pregnant friend, you can't go wrong with one of these!

Absolutely essential during pregnancy, breastfeeding and beyond - especially if you have got spd - you can sleep with it between your legs, use it to feed on, put it in the middle of the bed to stop you rolling onto co-sleeping baby and then when they're sitting up you can plonk it behind the baby in case they fall backwards.
You can buy them from most of the usual online shops - and get lots of different covers - my los have loved the fleecy covers when newborn.Read moreLessMumsnetter giantkatestacks

"What can I say except beg, borrow or steal to…"
22-Jan-2009
What can I say except beg, borrow or steal to get yourself one of these. At first I was sceptical as I have many, many pillows but a big V shaped one will become your new best friend (and practically your boyfriend from the positions you will get it in!). I had bad SPD to the extent that being in bed was unbearable but it was made so much better by my new friend Pillow. Once ds was here, it was practically attatched to my lap as I used it to give my arms a rest from the constant feeding, and I also used it to shove down the gap between the bed and the wall to stop ds falling out (sorry Pillow). Now I use it to prop him up when he is playing. They can be expensive, and I'd recommend buying a beanbag type one rather than one filled with fluff but you can pick them up cheap (a friend got one at an NCT sale for a quid) and if any of my friends get pregnant this is what I will buy them, as it is useful for such a long time.

I could not live without it. To breastfeed, it was vital; to prop her up when learning to sit up, it would have been impossible without the pillow. To tuck her in on my lap near my breasts in those hard nights when she would not let me put her in the cot to sleep...she is now 2 and I still use it for my lower back ache and to rock her at night in the rocking chair whilst reading her a story. Very useful piece of kit. Get yourself one.
