Bought this play mat for our new arrival, and honestly thought it was wonderful.
After six weeks of normal use, we noticed one of the "tent pole bits" that make the arms, poked out of the fabric. This exposes a hard 4-5mm pole end, perfect to stick into any soft bits of our 7 week old.
Concerned, we contacted M&P who on the phone sounded very concerned and helpful.
They have since come back and send it's not a design flaw, they have had a number of calls about this and only happens if you extend the arms in the wrong direction or pull on the arms.
We've never extended the arms, but have moved the mat as a whole around the room (to hoover etc). What parent has the time to dismantle the play mat, move it, while holding a baby who wants another feed, and toddler who just wants to help (but putting everything back before you get a chance to do anything), hoover and then build the mat again!!!
So, please avoid if you want to use the mat with the arms. In reply to my twitter feed, M&P said this "fault only happened when the arms are extended the wrong way or pulled" - hmm, guy's you just said there's a fault!
In my opinion, the product is not safe - but the mat without the arms is still great. M&P, please fix it and stop hiding behind PR to not fix a problem - not blaming you, just pointing out there is one.
