Flowers in a Basket

Flowers are nice but the best gift I had when my baby was born, was a bunch of flowers which if you look closer, were actually pairs of baby socks and tops! They were absolutely beautiful and once you tire of it, you can dismantle the flowers and the baby can wear the clothes. I have been buying these flowers as gifts for all my friends who are new parents and it never ceases to please me to see how delighted and amazed they are with the gift. I think flowers a waste - people get tons, they're faffing to deal with the early days. Buy a fruit basket/chocolates/etc for the starving bf mother instead!

When my hormones got going and baby blues after my first baby, flowers really cheered me to my toes.

Definately a lovely idea. Often with a new baby you get a lot of flowers and therefore plants growing in a basket or similar are nice because they last longer and need only a little care.
(I remember a friend bursting into tears over some cut flowers that wouldn't stand up properly! sometimes new mums need nothing else to worry about ;) )
