A very kind present - unless you have a baby with reflux. Don't even go there.
My dd hasn't ever liked hers - and it takes up loads of space.Read moreLess

My dad got us a fisher price swing when my second child was born 18 months after the first. It was a life saver when trying to do the bath/bed routine (and we got a few hot dinners in). Not so useful after the first 4 months, although the older one did enjoy swinging in it and it still works so thats got to be good?!Read moreLess

I was given one by a friend and it was a lovely gift. Ds didn't like the bouncy chair but would happily stay in this. Definately an optional extra but a lovely gift.Read moreLess

When I had dd1, the people I worked with collected and bought a swing, it was something I wouldn't have bought myself but was a real godsend. Both my dd's loved it and it's suitable from birth to 12 months.Read moreLess

This is a lovely piece of kit IF it is wanted/needed. There might not be enough room for it. The parents might not need to put the baby down. I have a Fisher-price folding one and it is really handy but until I had two close together I would not have wanted one.
It works up to 3 or 4 months, and is a possible alternative to an activity gym if babies get lots of floor time for other reasons.Read moreLess

"New Mums won't realise how useful a swing is for a newborn." "Having not had one of these for my first child I was a little sceptical as to whether they are really worth the money. But it was amazing! It meant I actually got hot dinners with my second child, something we very rarely got when my first born was born". "My daughter would sleep happily in it for ages" "As a parent of twins this wasn't a luxury but an essential - it meant I knew one would be kept happy while I could deal with the other."Read moreLess

Great when the baby is young - less good when they are able to reach the bars and pull themselves around agressively! Very expensive substitute for bouncy chair if you get a battery operated one.Read moreLess
