I found these so useful with my two - I always buy one for new parents. It takes all the worry away about how many sheets/blankets and you know they won't kick them off or escape! The travel ones are great too as you can transfer babies from car seat to cot without having to wake them.

DS loved to be swaddled, and as he was my first at six weeks once he started to wriggle out we had a fraught week of being able to settle him. The Baby sleeping bag, or grobag was a life and sleep saver. would highly recommend them, and you always need at least two (for those little accidents!)

I was given a Merino Go Go Bag for my newborn daughter. It has been the most wonderful gift ever!! Now 15 months old she has slept in it every night and it still looks as good as new & shows no sign of wear. If washed in the morning it's dry by bedtime. She can't kick it off. I've used in in UK winters and summers and a NZ summer/autumn - she is always kept at a good temperature. The quality is unbeatable, it gorgeous & well designed and I couldn't imagine life without it. We have recommended them to many friends with new babies who also love them. My daughter doesn't have a security blanket & has never formed and sleep attachments - also she will sleep anywhere in her bag. I wonder if this is because the GoGo bag fulfills these rolls?

Grobags are absolutely brilliant -- I wish I had known about them when I had a newborn who kept kicking off his blankets and waking up cold in the night. My nearly two-year-old still sleeps in them and I'll keep him in them until he gets too big! The Dream Bag Company (www.thedreambag.co.uk) are a good alternative to Grobag -- I don't think they're quite as lovely in design/feel but they do tend to be cheaper.

"When my baby granddaughter was born I quickly realised I…"
05-Dec-2008
When my baby granddaughter was born I quickly realised I would have a problem when the time came for her to sleep overnight at my house, I wanted to start having her as early as possible so she would get used to me and also to give my daughter a break. The problem was that I don't have central heating as among my many ailments my bronchial asthma means that this kind of heating is unbearable to me and makes my chest very tight and wheezy. Now, we all know that a brand new baby needs to be kept at a constant temperature and while my granddaughters needs would always come above my own it is just not physically possible for me to have the central heating on. I needed a solution and I needed it quite quickly as my granddaughter was due to spend her first weekend with me and I didn't fancy having to explain to her doting mum and dad why she had developed icicles on her toes!
The solution came in the form of a Grobag baby sleeping bag, which was recommended by a friend whose daughter is a Health Visitor. A baby sleeping bag is basically a duvet that you fasten around your baby with holes for their head and arms to poke through, I must admit I was skeptical as to how warm this would keep my granddaughter, but I bowed to the greater knowledge of current babycare items and ordered a 0 - 6 months Grobag from Ebay. What I hadn't realised at the time is that these sleeping bags come with a tog rating in the same way as a duvet so you're supposed to guage what tog you need depending on the time of year and general warmth of baby's bedroom. Luckily I ordered the tog I would need (the highest, 2.5 tog) so didn't have to mess around getting exchanges sorted out or anything.
The Grobag sleeping bag came beautifully presented in a robust plastic folder, and also included a useful wall thermometer that I hung up in my bedroom as this is where my granddaughter would be sleeping. I chose a vibrant pink and orange striped design, although could have opted for a more pastel and traditionally coloured polka dot one or a range of other beautiful designs. The designs for boys and girls are completely different so there is no need to wrap Jessica or Sarah in a stripy blue sleeping bag that would be more suited to Jack or Mark, and vice versa of course! The designs also grow with the sizes which is great as an appropriate pastel daisy print for a three month old baby would not necessarily look as good on a boisterous three year old.
These sleeping bags are suitable from birth (providing your baby meets the minimum weight of 7lbs) up to six years old, to be honest I cannot picture a five or six year old wearing one but I suppose they must do otherwise they would not make such large sizes. When mine arrived I was shocked to see how long it was compared to the length of my then 12 week old granddaughter, it was at least double her length and I was a little worried about how well it would fit her in the body and also I wondered just how comfortable this thing was going to be for her to wear.
Not a problem, the 0 - 6 month sleeping bag has plastic press studs under the arms which can be closed when your baby is very small to prevent her pulling her arms through to the body of the sleeping bag. It also had a zip going up the front all the way up to the neckhole which would then be tucked securely into a small flap of material so baby couldn't get hold of it and undo herself, and also to stop and chaffing or rubbing on the neck. I thought this was great as I remember my daughter had to stop using zip-up babygrows on my eldest granddaughter after the zipper pull started irritating her chin and neck. As soon as I had zipped my granddaughter into her sleeping bag I saw how comfortable she looked, the phrase 'like a bug in a rug' was coined for these Grobag sleeping bags and she wsa kept warm and cosy all night long - I wanted one for myself as I shivered my way to the bathroom in the middle of the night!
I still have a sleeping bag for my granddaughter, she is now in the 18 - 24 month size and has even learned how to walk in it! I have stuck to the 2.5 tog all the way through, partly because of the chilly summer we had last year, but adjust her clothing to accomodate the general temperature of the season. All her sleeping bags have been Grobag, with the exception of a brief flirtation with a rubbish (and very ugly) Mothercare sleeping bag. I find the Grobag sleeping bags wash very well and don't take nearly as long to dry as you would imagine, I only use it when my granddaughter is staying at the weekend so find just one sleeping bag suits my needs perfectly but if you use one every night then I would recommend buying two so that you have one to wash and one to wear.
If you are looking for a Christmas gift for any new parent than I cannot rate these sleeping bags highly enough, I have actually gifted them myself to various members of my family and they have always been well received, coo-ed over and then used to death once mum realises just how useful these Grobag sleeping bags are! Prices vary of course, I remember my 0 - 6 month sleeping bag costRead moreLessMumsnetter iamjoy

The Grobag has been one item we couldn't have done without, as my daughter always used to kick out of her swaddle when she was younger & now I think its great as she knows everytime I put her in her Grobag she knows it time to go to sleep.

04-Dec-2008
I agree with all the other postings. Both daughters had them almost since birth and I used them for as long as possible. My four year old still likes to wear them sometimes. My second daughter has worn a long one since about 6 months old that will last her until she has a bed and is much taller. When the child gets older they are great for preventing the toddler trying to climb out the cot. Once they have learnt how to unzip them you can put the sleeping bag on back to front. The next step is back to front and inside out, and if that is mastered you last hope is to secure the zip with a nappy pin! Better than having them shin over the edge of the cot and hurting themselves.

I bought a 'Grobag' for my first and it was an instant success. Safe, secure and you can adapt to the temp with no mucking around with blankets/quilts etc. Changing at night is also less disruptive as you can zip up from bottom of bag to get nappy access.

Grobag Sleeping Bag a Godsend. My first son was born in October, every night his covers ended up under his arms, legs and body uncovered, I always tucked them in tight to sides of moses basket. When my son was 5 months old I invested in a Grobag, worries were over and my son woke up still warm. I could also take him out of his moses basket and then cot and feed him change him and he still stayed warm. The first size Grobag has a zip up the side and bottom so you can access the nappy while the top half stayed warm.
I have now used them again on my second son.
I would highly recommend to anyone. Thank you Grobag for the invention.Read moreLessMumsnetter Samantha1
