Best present I got was 6 mini bottles of champagne. Enough for a glass after DS went to bed and much better than opening a big bottle and wasting it! I also couldn't manage more than 1 glass because after 9 months' abstinance I'd turned into a total lightweight!

Fantastic in the early days, but I think I appreciated it even more when I sadly miscarried. I was so grateful to the friend who turned up with all the forbidden foods.

26-Jan-2009
This is one of the best gifts I've ever received, such a thoughtful one because there's nothing a pregnant lady craves more than the foods that she can't have - I really enjoyed the pate and the goats cheese most of all, they're my absolute favourites. If you want to give a really special gift just for the new mum - this is it!

This is a really thoughtful gift, and is guaranteed to make the recipient smile.
Obviously, find out if your friend is vegetarian or vegan before including pate or gooey blue cheese.
There are many things you're meant to avoid during pregnancy that are lovely luxury items.
What about 'banned' essential oils, or quality chsmpagne.Read moreLessMumsnetter TheBurnsifiedEffect

I was very impressed when I was given this gift. It wasn't the prettiest gift but was definately the most tasty!
I forgot how much I missed Pate, soft cheeses, seafood etc etc.
A brilliant idea although as the first review said it is worth checking if you are breastfeeding.Read moreLessMumsnetter AttillaTheHan

14-Oct-2008
The best present I received after giving birth was a hamper of all the foods I couldn't eat whilst pregnant; smoked salmon, salami, pate, wine, cured meats, runny cheese etc, and some bread and biscuits to go with. It meant we didn't have to cook that night too!
You may want to consult your midwife or health visitor if breastfeeding though.Read moreLess
