"This was the perfect gift for my husband who drinks…"
07-Jul-2011
This was the perfect gift for my husband who drinks oceans of tea! My daughter painted one and my son painted another, so he has one mug for work and one for home. A great way to personalise something that is usually just bland and functional.

Dd1 had great fun painting mugs for her daddy, granda and grandad. I used masking tape to create sections on the mug so she didn't have to be too careful with the paint. They all loved them but her grandad forgot to take his home and her daddy took almost a year to remember to take it to work with him.

we went to the pottery cafe on fulham road and made an "abstract art" mug for daddy - i.e armed my 19month old with a paint brush and left him to it - an hour of fun and a unique pressie at the end...

Brilliant idea, you can never have too many cups and your children get to develop their artistic side.
Also reasonably cheap to buy too. We got the diy kit from a supermarket but apparently the pottery shop option is also good and probably more professional looking.Read moreLessMumsnetter AttillaTheHan

Fantastic gift! I first did this for dh from the dk's and bought the mug that also allows a message to be recorded. Must admit I had a laugh trying to get a message recorded by a 1 and 2 year old BUT I managed it!.
The kids enjoyed leaving daddy a message and enjoyed making their mark on the mug and I must admit its one gift that even I love looking at daily. I also love listening to it and remembering the fun we had making it.
We have since made mug gifts for both sets of grandparents, a unique and individual gift. At a cost of aroundRead moreLessMumsnetter shhhh

Sound present - especially the making of the design bit
Can either have a hand print of babies, or get an older child to create their own decoration
Adds to that all inclusive family bit, but does not cost the earthRead moreLessMumsnetter LottisDad

Fabulous - my DH's eyes welled up when presented with gloriously daubed offering from the tiny DCs. And quite cheap too.

We've done several of these and they really go down well - you can never have too many mugs with your offspring's handprints on to adorn the work kitchen!

I made this at a local shop where you can paint with your baby's hand/footprints onto unfired pottery. They then glaze and fire it for you. I think it makes a lovely gift for father's day. Older children can paint their own design.

The joy my daughter got out of painting Daddy's cup and then putting her hand print on it was so lovely. Dad thought it was great too until I accidently smashed it - just have to go back and do another one this year!
