"I did this for DH for his birthday as he"
12-May-2011
I did this for DH for his birthday as he has always loved flying (his Dad was involved in the start up of London City Airport and used to take him there to watch the planes take off). We turned up on the day at a local airfield and he set off with his instructor in the small plane. They spent about 45 mins up there with DH learning the ropes and then having a go himself. Really good morning out and a great experience - especially for anyone who is thinking about learning to fly and wants a taster.

"One of the common secret fantasies of men is being"
13-May-2010
One of the common secret fantasies of men is being a pilot - even if only for an hour!! This is a great idea and not as expensive as you may initially think.
My other half has always been a plane fanatic. I booked at a local(ish) airfield who were very friendly and helpful. The lesson was in a 'Cesna' (I think!) and flying time was an hour and he actually got to really fly the plane. We also got discount offers for future lessons.
The only negative thing is that no matter what gifts we have and will give since then will never live up to the, quote, "most amazing, unbelievable gift" he's ever hadRead moreLessMumsnetter mammamic

"We got an hour's flying lesson for my father in"
23-May-2009
We got an hour's flying lesson for my father in law for Fathers day last year. He's into planes and likes playing flight simulator on the pc a lot. We booked an hour at a local airfield through them and then received a voucher through the post about 4 days later, then just showed up on the day and presented the voucher. then my father in law and an instructor flew a small 2 seater plane for an hour while we watched the landing and take off from a lovely little coffee room. a good day out for all the family and my father in law loved it as he got to actually take off, fly and land. also the staff and instructor were so friendly and it was so easy to book. well worth it .
