"This is a fantastic gift for Dads who like to"
02-Jun-2011
This is a fantastic gift for Dads who like to read, whether they read for their own pleasure or read to their little ones.
Previously only available directly from Amazon this e-reader can now be found in supermarkets such as Tesco.
The best thing about the kindle is that it holds so many electronic books that there is no need to carry dozens of books on holiday. This saves much needed space in the luggage!
Having struggled in the past to see computer screens and read mobile phone screens in the sunshine I worried that it might be hard to read on the beach but actually the screen is surprisingly clear. Dad can adjust the text size and contrast and can even change the aspect of the book from vertical to horizontal if required.
The kindle can hold pictures in addition to words so If Dad reads to children they can look at the pictures as well as reading the words together.
Children love 'turning the pages' by pressing buttons and the page is automatically bookmarked when you leave the book.
For Dad to read alone the choice of books available for the Kindle is huge. Factual or fictional, biographies, manuals, cartoon books, etc.
Plus, once Dad has a Kindle there is always the option to get him Amazon vouchers for future gift giving occasions.Read moreLessMumsnetter suewilly

"I got this for DH as a birthday present -"
06-May-2011
I got this for DH as a birthday present - he was never much of a reader, but LOVES gadgetry, so I thought I'd get him reading a bit more and a new toy to boot. I got him the 3G version.
He absolutely loves it, he can download his tech books for work, and is working his way through some classics too. As he is a non-native English speaker, he's found it invaluable to be able to look up words immediately when he's a bit lost, and all the reading has helped his language skills immensely (although he does occasionally come out with some very dated terms, and started saying 'elementary' every time he answers a question. No prizes for guessing what books he'd been reading then...).
Great gadget, very very easy to use.Read moreLessMumsnetter KvetaBarry
