"More useful than anticipated…"
12-Jan-2013
I wasn't expecting much from a Facebook app but I was pleasantly surprised. The questions are rigorous and signpost to other possible causes of symptoms unlikely to indicate colic, with advice to seek professional advice as appropriate. For example, one of the symptoms I ticked 'yes' on for DD is linked to lactose intolerance, something I hadn't thought of and will be investigating further. The app is easy to use (only available on the desktop site though) and useful at ruling colic in or out. It could be improved with extended advice on how to combat colic rather than just 'use Infacol and see a doctor' (my summary!) e.g. thorough winding, baby massage.

"Basic but a good starting point…"
11-Jan-2013
This app brought together all of the questions and symptoms that I had to gather from several sources, both professional and other mother's experiences, when I was desperately trying to research for my son.
It is useful how they also suggest differential diagnoses like reflux but I think that this is where it is always important to stress that the baby should be seen by their GP or midwife/health visitor. A computer app can only go so far to diagnose anyone or anything as everyone is different and not text book. Things can be missed or misinterpreted so it is highly important that the app is not used as a single source for help and advice.
I think it's a good starting point and infacol do help further with other videos for managing with colic.

"An interactive advertisement…"
08-Jan-2013
I wouldn't usually think of a facebook app as the first place to find medical/baby advice, and getting this information from a site which is to promote a product also seemed a little odd, so I will admit that I approached the app with a bit of trepidation.
In order to get any information from the app, you first have to "like" the product - which is Infacol's first self-promotion, as then it told my friends that I had done so. It is instantly eye-catching and simple to use, though, and certainly looked friendly and appealing.
The questions themselves were very simplified, and sometimes their explanation of the symptoms felt a bit patronising.
Once the app had told me that my baby was experiencing colicky symptoms, it suggested that Infacol may help - not much of a surprise there, and again, it felt like an advertisement rather than something to give advice or put a parents mind at rest.
For a parent who really isn't sure of the symptoms, and is concerned about colic, I suppose it is a helpful indicator - but it certainly wouldn't be my first point of call or recommendation for others to get information.

Easy to use, navigate and understand but felt too engineered to get you to the end and say 'Use Infacol!'. FB would not be the first place I'd try when looking for support with my baby and I'd rather use a more unbiased resource for help.

it basically tells you what you already know and then says buy infacol. it first suggested that my baby had reflux and then i went back and it took me through all the questions to say it was colic. very simple and not really something i would use in a pinch.

"Wouldn't be my first port of call…"

I entered my daughter's symptoms and it suggested she might have reflux rather than colic - which is true. Simple and easy to use, but I can't imagine using a Facebook app for this sort of thing in place of a more trusted source such as the NHS website.

Was an OK app but a little patronising, as others have said. Not sure I'd use it for future children or recommend it to others to be honest.

"Well laid out but not really very practical…"
18-Dec-2012
The app is simple and easy to use with clear questions and nicely laid out.
I do have concerns that suggests infacol is a cure all for colic, it is clearly advertising the product quite hard. There are other options for colic, calming down your baby with less stimulus and massage to name a few. There's little evidence that colic is purely a digestive issue and parents may try infacol based on this app yet find that it still does nothing for their babies condition.
The questions are very basic and could be seen as patronising by some.
When my son suffered from colic I wouldn't have had time to be at a computer answering questions and in that sense I think it could be a waste of time for stressed out parents. Maybe first time parents would find it useful but I did not really see the point of it.

"Ok but a bit patronising and simplistic…"
18-Dec-2012
The app is simple and easy to use however I don't like that it suggests infacol is the only solution for colic, it would be more helpful if other remedies were suggested, such as massage. I do feel it comes across a bit patronising and if you answer one of the questions a certain way then it definitely is not colic and there could be something serious wrong.. I think it could be more sensitive.

"A good introduction to colic but lost points for being patronising.…"
18-Dec-2012
The app was well formatted and easy to read and navigate. I imagine that even the most sleep-deprived desperado could work through it effectively.
I appreciated the inclusion of alternatives to colic and the firm advice to seek medical help if necessary.
I found the suggestion made at one point that my baby might actually have just needed a nappy change after having already stated that the baby cried inconsolably for three hours more than slightly patronising. If I had still been in the midst of the horrendous colic phase rather than reviewing retrospectively this might have made me slightly furious. I imagine if I'd got to the point of using an app I would probably have bothered to check his nappy.
I'm not entirely comfortable with this product being presented as the be-all-and-end-all solution for colic. I would have appreciated some supplementary advice such as slinging tips, winding positions and even some info on cranial osteopathy.

"Easy to use…"
18-Dec-2012
The app was well presented and had a simple to use layout. I think that it could be useful for first time parents to idenify colic symptoms and put their minds at ease.
I am familiar with colic because my first son had it so it wasn't all that relevant to me.
Overall, it seemed useful.

"Simple to use and clear…"
17-Dec-2012
This is a simple, clear and easy to use app. The presentation is easy on the eye and the 10 questions are clear and invite definite "yes" or "no" answers; it is unlikely that you would be unsure which answer to give.
The results are responsibly phrased (always advising you to get medical advice) and do not give definite answers but instead give suggestions as to what the problem might be. This is not in any way a replacement for medical advice but a good starting point for new parents in the middle of the night.
My only concern with this app is that as it is produced by Infacol, it is obviously pushing their product as a solution to colic while there are other options available. This is not to say it is not a trustworthy app, simply that I wouldn't want to rely on it solely for advice.
