"Great and gross in equal amounts!…"
24-Sep-2012
We really enjoyed this app. The artwork is great - wonderful quality. The narrators do a great job and as we are Scottish it was nice to be read to in our own accent :D
It would really benefit from being more interactive. We all kept pressing items on the page thinking they would do something but it was 'just' the story.
The extra parts with the backstory of all the characters was a great bonus. Both my boys (4 and 7) loved this part.
The actual story is brilliant. A bit gory and without a happy ending. My boys were horrified and delighted in equal measure. The 4 year old couldn't get his head around an ending where the witch doesn't get her comeuppance! He wants more story with an ending that suits him ;)

"Wicked Witch of the East…"

My daughter (8yo) and I reviewed this app. We both thought it was fantastic! The story is excellent and is narrated in an easy to listen to voice.
The illustrations are amazing and my daughter loved the extra information and detail [at the end] describing the characters as much as the story itself!
It was our first book app for the iPad and we will definitely enjoy many more because this was so good.
We have already looked at it many times.

"Engaging and wonderful for kids…"
06-Aug-2012
My children aged 9 and 7 were really eager to try this app and follow the story with the hardcopy of the book. The illustrations were fantastic - really detailed and amazing. They loved the Scottish accent of the narrator. I would have loved the story to be more interactive with possibly choices for the children. For example which way should the fairy go?
The story itself is quite dark and not the usual fairy story. They were quite startled by the ending. Most kids are used to happy endings! Not sure if this is a good or bad thing.
It was also nice to see how you could read about the various characters. We would love to see more books which could possibly have a variety of endings to make things a bit more interesting.

"Beautifully illustrated app with extra details of characters…"
18-Jul-2012
This is a beautifully produced, slick app with very high quality art and a compelling story about a witch, goblins and faeries.
The story may be a little dark for a younger child and DS, aged 4, did find it quite scary, although he still enjoyed it. He found it easy to navigate through the app and turn the pages.
The reading of the story is very clear and in an appealing Scottish accent.
In addition to simply showing the contents of the book, the app also has extensive back stories for all of the characters, indicating that it's set in its own world with many stories. This is, in fact, the first of a series of six books planned, with the next one being available in August. The only possible negative point is that it isn't really interactive, but the extra detail of the character biographies makes up for this.
