I suffer from the condition known as Polymorphic Light Eruption. What that means is that from about March every year, as the UV levels increase, the skin on my arms and fronts of my legs break out on a horrible blistered rash. This rash is much worse than prickly heat and it gets so bad and so joined together, that it eventually ends up looking like one huge red raised up mass.
I have to have specialist UV treatment every February at my hospital, in an attempt to "harden" my skin to the condition. This has limited success though and most summers I end up miserable, itchy, embarrassed and in long sleeves! The rash comes even through glass, so my hands on the steering wheel of the car on a sunny day will get it. Once the rash takes hold, it doesn't go away until October. So as you can imagine, it does put a dampener on my summers.
Last year the consultant recommended I try SunSense 50+ . I already used a 50+ sunscreen every day, so I wasn't convinced that this would make any difference.
It does, it really does. The formula is quite thick and does take a few minutes to rub in, but it feels light on the skin, cool and not greasy.
The best part for me though is the fact that it truly helps to keep my rash at bay. It doesn't stop it completely, but what I get now is practically unnoticeable. No other sun screen has ever been able to do what Sun Sense does
I can now go out with short sleeves and not feel embarrassed, not try to hide my arms behind my back when I talk to people.
I now use Sun Sense sun sensitive almost all year round and the difference is amazing. Yes it is quite expensive, but I find that a little goes a long way.
I totally recommend SunSense, not only for it's brilliant sun protection, but for it's ability to cope with tough sensitive skin issues.
