"Outwell are the pricier end of the market but have…"
Outwell are the pricier end of the market but have a great reputation for quality and good design. The Vermont XL is a huge tent with a lot of useable space. It is the biggest sized tent you can get on a camping and caravan club pitch (without having to deal direct with the site).
It is split into thirds. The back third is 3 bedrooms, with removable, zipped in dividers, providing flexible sleeping space.
The middle third is the enormous living space with plenty of windows, 2 doors and a wardrobe/loo space. The front third is a porch that we use as our camp kitchen and dining area, with still space for shoes and wellies. You can fully open up the front and actually use it as a canopy. It also has a removable bathtub ground sheet - handy for cleaning out. As you'd expect with an Outwell, there are storage pockets sewn into the walls, places for hanging lights, hi-vis guy lines and an EHU access point. The dividers between the spaces can be half unzipped to no-see-um mesh to allow good ventilation. The one drawback is that all the doors slope so when it rains the inside does get wet when you go out. It is also a big and heavy tent so requires a fair bit of hefting to get it up.Read moreLess
"After much research and help from Yeoman's in Ambleside we…"
After much research and help from Yeoman's in Ambleside we went for the Vermont XL to accommodate our family of 5 in comfort!
We are new to camping but I, in particular, am not one for slumming it - I like my comfort and I like my space!
This has a fabulously huge porch which is brilliant for kicking off shoes and coats so that you can avoid getting wet adn mud in the main part of the tent.
The lounge area is huge so great if you need to spend time indoors (although we haven't as yet).
3 bedrooms are fab and you can have the separate or unzip to make a larger room. The 5 of us tend to sleep across 2 bedrooms and use the other room as somewhere to put the holdalls.
Also has another small room with a pole for hanging coat but I use this as a toilet (I mean, I put a 'luggable loo' in there!) - invaluable after a few drinks al fresco as inevitably will happen when camping!
It is so incredibly easy to put up - after only one or two attempts my friend and I, 2 slight women, were able to put it up and take it down and re-pack within an hour. Not bad going!
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this tent and would highly recommend it.Read moreLess

This is a cracking tent, we upgraded to this last year and took it to Devon and Norfolk. It is a big tent but with three boys we need it. It is a very well thought out tent and we lost count of the people that we showed around the tent. A nice touch is the carpet that you can buy for the very large living area which makes it a lot more cosy.
It is reasonable easy to put I given it's size a packs down well. We are very pleased with this tent and would highly recommend it.Read moreLess
