My wife used this for our 1st and I had a go once she got a bit heavy to carry on my front. we thought its good while there light but as soon as she got above 12 lbs it became really uncomfortable, elbows and knees dig in no matter how much you try and stop it + trying to get it on in the back possition on your own isnt recomened.
verdict is good upto 6 mths then after that it dosent offer much support.Read moreLess

The Ergo is fantastic. It keeps your child close to you on the front and back which eliminates back trouble. I carry my 1 year old everywhere in it and my 3 year old can also hitch a lift when she's tired.Read moreLess
"I used this today for the first time with my…"
I used this today for the first time with my 8.5 month old. It was a lovely experience. He enjoyed both the back and the front position - being close to his mama! He fell asleep, and slept for much longer than usual whilst I shopped!
In terms of comfort - I found it really great. All the weight sits on the hips, not the shoulders. The straps stay on securely with the horizontal strap.
Yes, it is difficult getting them into the back position. You either have to shuffle them around from front to back, or - as a mother in line at a cafe told me- perfect swinging them up and over your shoulder fireman style. My son giggled when I tried this.
all in all happy so far.Read moreLess

"Although the design of this carrier is very versatile my…"
Although the design of this carrier is very versatile my daughter really didn't take to it. She hated not being able to see where she was going (which she had been able to do in her other carrier) while we were walking and kept twisting round, which made the carrier slip off my shoulders.
I found it very difficult to put on on my own and nearly dropped my daughter a couple of times, as she was trying to twist round.
The pouch at the front is very useful for bits and bobs (mobile phoine, keys, dog poop scoop bags etc).
It was comfortable to wear when my daughter was sitting upright but I found it didn't sit so well as she was twisting round.
Might just be my wriggly, nosey one year old that it does not work for (!)Read moreLess
"It is a good 'gateway' carrier for first timers. Easy…"
It is a good 'gateway' carrier for first timers. Easy to get to grips with. However, for petite women the shoulder straps tend to slip off and the waistbelt is oversized. I found that once my daughter was mobile she could lean too far backwards when on my back. I only had the classic and I understand teh New Generation has a higher back.
There are similar carriers on the market that are also more attractive and 'ergo'nomically and slimlined and about the same price so it pays to look around.
The recent business practices of Ergo has recently become controversial so for those with concerns in this area you may want to read this thread: http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=1012&threadid=478974#9672091Read moreLess

I love my Ergo and so does my 10 month old daughter. We use it all the time and she rarely complains! She much much prefers it to the pushchair and I find it quite liberating to not have a bag and a pushchair and all that paraphernalia that we tend to accummulate if we can! Very comfortable - wish I'd had one sooner!Read moreLess

Although not as solid as some of the framed carriers, it's "a brilliant design". The weight is balanced effectively between the hips and shoulders, making it "so comfortable to wear, even over long periods". Everyone praised it for baby comfort: "The design means they sit in a really good position and don't ?hang' as with a lot of carriers" and "the head support makes it comfortable for sleeping toddlers too". Reviewers found the numerous extras useful, particularly the infant insert which means you can use it for newborns and avoid forking out on two different types of carriers.Read moreLess

I really like this backpack, it is reasonably easy to use (once you've practiced a few times) it is reasonably comfy to wear (much more comfortable than others that i have tried) and my little 18 month old little girl loves being in it.
She likes it best on the front so that she can cuddle me especially in the afternoon when shes tired.
Altogether the best backpack around.Read moreLess

simple to get using. if you have used a backpack, you can use this carrier. baby loves the closeness and stays comfy for hours. I've used it since dd was 4 mos old. My dd is only 8 mos at the moment but we can see it lasting a long time. Not the cheapest on the market but the adjustable straps and waistband means that I (small) and dh (xl) can use the same carrier.Read moreLess

I love this carrier, at first it looked daunting and did take a few days to get used to, but it soon become as easy as falling off a log. It is the most comfortable soft carrier I've owned and after 4 children I've tried a few and my son falls asleep in seconds. I thought the hood bit, on the New Generation, was a bit of a joke but it really works and he sleeps for hours with it. Finally it is so good, both outside and in, as it takes up so little room you can move easily around the house and not knock people over in town. I think in money terms if you buy cheap you buy twice and I thought this worked out as excellent value for money considering I spentRead moreLess
