I love my Manduca. It's perfect from newborn to toddler. It's very similar to an Ergo but I think it has 3 key advantages: no need to buy a newborn insert; the straps cross over at the back making it much easier on the back; the baby's back section is expandable so fits older children better. My dd is now 2 and has loved it since a week old.Read moreLess
"Easy on the back, easy to use, breathable…"
I love my Manduca. The newborn insert was great when DS was tiny, though it is a bit fiddly to use, as you have to put them in lying flat then lift up. Head support was also really useful with a newborn. Now with an older baby it spreads the weight really comfortably, and even for somewhat-unwilling-packhorse me it is comfortable for a good couple of hours of wear. It is real quick and easy to use, as well as robust and hard wearing, and wipe clean. It is also quite minimalist and airy - so you can both breathe even when it is hot.

Only does not get 5 stars because I cannot work out how to move the straps to use it in the hip carry position.Read moreLess

"Comfortable and easy to use…"
Initially we had a baby bjorn active but by 8 weeks baby was too heavy for me to carry so got this and it's so much better! Baby was lovely and snug when little and now he's 6 months can happily look around. Very easy to get on and off on my own and can carry my 20lb 6 month old for over an hour without difficulty. This carrier does not put pressure on my neck and shoulders unlike the baby bjorn therefore baby does not feel as heavy. Have not tried him on my back yet-I'm not sure this will be as easy on my own! Overall very impressed, wish I got this one from birth.Read moreLess

"Great if it works for you…"
I personally love this. It has worked well for me since we got it and I can happily carry our LO in it for ages. I've used it since she was a few months, and still do plenty now (she's 16months now). It has a lot of adjustments possible, but is easy to put on once you're used to it, so whether she wants to look loll around and wave her arms about or snuggle up and sleep if suits fine. Tend to use it on my front as back and side are harder to set up and get LO set up in (see below).

Reason it's not five stars is two fold. Firstly, LO can take it or leave it. Quite happy once we're moving, and sleeps well in it, but she's often not a fan of the getting in bit and sometimes not much a fan once she's in it for a little while too. This tends to mean we always go for the fastest option, is front way round.

Secondly, it's taken my wife ages to get used to it. I think in part this is because while she was nursing this positioned our LO in prime "grab and reveal" territory. Not ideal when out shopping. Not sure there are many slings that completely avoid this, but this one seemed to optimise it. Now she's weaned (the LO obviously) it works much better though and they both get on great with it.

So in summary a great product if it works for you, but will depend on if your LO likes a sling full stop and even then might be a tad risking it to use in very public places pre-weaning! If you happen to have a local sling library (just read about those below) then worth a tryout. Otherwise give it a punt and make ebay your friend if it's not a fit, they seem to hold their value pretty well.Read moreLess

"I love this carrier!!…"
My quest for the perfect baby carrier has ended with the Manduca. I had Close and BabyBjorn first but they didn't work for me ....

To start with, all of my baby's weight rests on my hips and not my shoulders meaning I can wear him comfortably all day. This is crucial for me as my 11 week old takes all his naps in the sling and I have a dog to walk. I even breastfed baby whilst walking dog today!!

also like that it is 50% hemp.....
and the built-in hood is really handy, rain or shine...

it's expensive but feels worth it as I will be using it everyday for the next 2 years ....Read moreLess

"Love my Manduca…"
I tried quite a few carriers from our local sling library, and found this to be the best one for me. It's quite similar to the Ergo, but crucially the straps have adjustable clips on them, which allows you to cross over the straps on your back, while carrying the baby on your front. This really saved my back!
We've had this sling for 2 1/2 years now, and use it for our 3 year old and 1 1/2 year old in equal measure. They both love it, and love being high up and able to see!Read moreLess

"All the benefits of 'Baby Wearing' but without the complicated…"
All the benefits of 'Baby Wearing' but without the complicated bits!!

I tried out the Manduca at The Baby Show and instantly fell in love! We bought one there and then and haven't looked back. I've used other baby carriers in the past and have found them ok until I found the Manduca and cannot believe how much better it is! I started using it immediately with my 10 month old - she slept soundly on my front whist we wandered around the show and I barely knew I was wearing her. Later on when she was awake (after a quick snack and a nappy change) she happily travelled on my back again very comfortable for both of us. I wear her on my back around the house sometimes when she's restless but I need to get the chores done.

I also use it with my 3 year old; a 30 minute walk is tough going on little legs when you've just spent 3 hours playing at nursery but riding on Mummy's back is so much fun. People are astounded that I carry the 3 year old but we find it fantastic - it gives us a chance to chat about his day as he's at the right height for my ears, I know he's safe away from the busy road and it means we get home quicker and so get to eat lunch actually at lunchtime! I just can't get across to people how easy it is to carry him using the Manduca.

There are a couple of things I struggle with - firstly I can't reach the head support when using the carrier on my back so if my little one falls asleep I'm wary of her head flopping about and secondly I find the hip carrier a bit complicated but maybe that's just me not reading the instructions right! Other than that its spot on!

For me the Manduca gives me all the benefits of baby wearing without the hassle of having to learn how on earth to wrap 5 meters of material! I wanted a carrier that was simple yet versatile enough to use with both of my children and that is exactly what the Manduca has given me. I would definitely rate this product 5 stars!Read moreLess

"I love wearing my baby. I've tried the Bjorn and…"
I love wearing my baby. I've tried the Bjorn and Moby wrap, and prefer the Manduca if I were to have one sling. Personally I have all three - but find I use this one the most. It is by far the easiest on your back and core muscles, which is important postpartum. It can also be used from birth through toddlerhood!

It's a really lovely sling that lets the baby be right up against you, unlike the Bjorn which has fabric between you. It is similar to the Ergo carrier, but has a few upgrades.

Highlights:

- can be used from birth
- the baby can be worn on your back, side or front
- it has an integrated head support/sunshade, which is easier than trying to keep a hat on your lo when in any carrier
- it's easy on your back, all the weight of the baby goes to your hips like a hiking backpack
- it's adjustable for small and large framed adults
- it's really fast to get onRead moreLess
