"Seems quite secure, but is fiddly…"
13-Nov-2012
I bought the Maclaren version of this to go with my XLR after purchasing the wrong one on the advice of one of the big childcare stores - as someone said below, the stores don't seem to be aware that you won't get the adapters otherwise, and you can't purchase them separately.
The seat seems quite secure, but I'm not convinced we put it in the car correctly (we don't have the isofix base), as you can easily slide it backwards and forwards once strapped in. It seems safest when I slide it towards the back of the seat so that my son is almost lying down, but he hates it. No way of knowing if this is correct.
As others have said, the straps get twisted so easily and it drives me insane.
The back of the seat can be lengthened, but my sons legs hang way off the front edge, and have to be propped up on the back of the passenger seat, so I understand why people think their children have outgrown it.
It does the job, but I probably wouldn't choose this seat again.Read moreLessMumsnetter Buttertart

To Chablis200,
I've just seen your review and wanted to comment, it's not possible for your baby to have outgrown the seat at 8 months (unless she's really big for her age - over 13kg in weight). The seat 'grows' with the child by adjusting the backrest length, have you missed this function? If so, please see the user manual, download it from our website www.recaro-cs.com or contact RECARO on 01926 484111. This function means that it's larger than almost any other infant carrier. The buckle position is optimised for safety and you'll find that the buckles of all the 'good' infant carriers are similar. Hope this helps and call us if you need assistance!Read moreLess3 people found this review helpful.

I've used this seat with my two older boys and am now using it with my week old son, its a great seat for security and protection for the baby. But I do agree that the straps can cause several expletives as they do have a tendency to twist, also my newborn is a very small baby and he doesn't really fit in the seat too well, not sure if its suitable for prem/small birth weight babies. All in all I have been happy with this seat and have subsequently moved onto the next stage Recaro for my older children. I currently use it without the isofix base and find it very easy to install in the car.

I can't fault this seat on safety and ease of use with the isofix base, BUT I wouldn't recommend it on the basis that i have caught my daughters leg multiple times in the buckle when doing it up. The belt has also twisted many times. She is now 8 months and has really outgrown it. Fine if you have a small baby but otherwise go for something else.

19-Apr-2010
I'm really impressed with this seat, it's sturdy and feels like it cocoons my baby, especially at the sides which some seats don't seem to. My Son seems very comfy in it and the back extends so the seatbelt is always at a good position for him as he grows. It's easy to install using the seatbelt once you've got the hang of it - I didn't fork out for the Isofix, it's not cheap as it is - and fits in my little 3 door hatchback. If you are buying it to go with the MacLaren XLR to make a travel system then make sure you get the Maclaren Recaro Seat (rather than just the Recaro Seat) as it has the adaptors you need. No one in the shops seems to be aware of this.

Fabulous seat - it is an Isofix base, so very secure, but still easy to install. Takes a little bit of practice getting the seat on and off the base, but ten is easy.
Baby's head is secure, and she is lying at the correct angle for a newborn. There is plenty of room to grow, and the seat is high quality so will last for a long time.
I absolutely love it, and can't recommend it highly enough...Read moreLess1 person found this review helpful.
