"Elegant & useful bedside cot…"
I rented the bednest from the NCT for approx. £135 for 6 months, plus a months grace to return it. This included delivery, return, and damage waiver. For each rental they provide a new mattress and fabric sides.
The unit was very easy to put together, we hardly looked at the instructions.
We were able to adjust the height of the cot so that it matched our bed exactly, which is great because we have a very high bed.
The look of the bed is very clean and somehow chic.
I love been able to lower the side of the cot and stare at my son. Getting him in and out of bed to breastfeed has been very easy and settling him with a reassuring hand on his chest or a little jiggle is made easy by the collapsible sides.
I am going to miss the bednest when I return it next month.Read moreLess
"Amazing design, perfect cot…"
We have had our Bednest from when DD was born and she is still in it, at 6 months. It is just the most fantastic design, both beautiful and functional - DD is as close as if she were in the bed next to me, but safe and secure in her own space.
The design is brilliant, and simple. The cot is standalone, and the base height is adjustable in continuous increments so you can make it exactly level with your bed. There is a height adjustment function at each end, so it can be adjusted to be slightly sloped so that the baby's head is elevated, if your LO has colic or reflux. It will attach securely to any bed, including a divan base (comes with very very long canvas straps).
The co sleeping element is perfect - one side opens completely, and one side halfway, so you have the option to have it completely opensided, or just enough for you to get to LO, but prevent them rolling out. The sides are a transparent mesh, so when both are up LO can still see where they are. And the sides just pop up and down with a tab closure, takes two seconds, so you can put them up for nap time.
The cot lifts easily off the base, so it can be moved around the house incredibly easily like a moses basket eg brought downstairs for daytime naps. That's especially brilliant for giving your LO a consistent sleep environment.
It is really roomy - DD is pretty much 50th centile for height and weight and still fits hers with room to spare at 6 months (though if she were more wriggly and pulling herself up, it would no longer be suitable due to the relatively low height of the sides). So the agonies of worrying about putting a 10 eek old into a massive cot have been avoided, and it's easy to keep your baby in with you for 6 months, in line with current SIDS guidance.
It packs away flat in two minutes (and comes with a storage / carry bag) so can be stored easily, and quite easily put in the car to take away with you on weekend stays/trips away, so LO has a familiar environment. (too heavy to take on holidays though).
The sides are washable, and the body easily wiped and cleaned. It is beautiful.
All in all, I think this is the best designed baby product I've ever used or seen. I rave about it (can you tell?!). RRP is £300 - worth it, but a bit out of our price range. I got one second hand (like new) on ebay for £150 and bought a new Little Green Sheep mattress to go into it for £60. John Lewis sells sheets that fit for £12 for two. It has been worth every penny, and I'll be saving it for all future DCs, then passing it on to family.Read moreLess
