"HEAVY…"
18-Dec-2012
The pros...This iron really couldn't be easier to use, fill with water, plug it in and wait a few seconds for it to heat up. Get on with the ironing. No buttons or knobs.
It does a really good job of ironing all kinds of fabrics.
The cons... It is very heavy.
The water chamber needs refilling often.
It is expensive. For a little more you could by a steam generating iron with a separate boiler which would be less heavy and require filling less often.Read moreLessMumsnetter loubielou31

"Good (but pricey) iron…"
13-Dec-2012
It makes ironing more efficient as you do not have to adjust temperature settings and organise the order of the clothes to be ironed.
It is also effective at removing creases quickly without needing to go back and forth over the same area.
However, it is heavier than standard irons. It also guzzles water and excessively raised the humidity levels in the room: the walls were wet after an hour of ironing. It needs to be used in a well-ventilated room.Read moreLessMumsnetter Rattitude

"Good but Pricey…"
12-Dec-2012
No need to have to sort your ironing or fiddle with temperature controls ever again.
I really liked the iron, but found the handle a bit large (for those of you with tiny hands like me) and it really uses a lot of water.
One item, DP's favorite, almost brand new jumper, has been ruined but everything else it copes with well, including DD's fairy dresses.
Did an amazing job on bedding and tablecloths, will actually start ironing these again, rather than just folding them out of the tumble drier.
Time will tell how well this iron lasts - which may change my view on it's value for moneyRead moreLessMumsnetter MTBMummy

"Very good iron but very expensive…"
11-Dec-2012
I'm rubbish at ironing, really awful but this has definitely made it easier. The iron primarily uses steam rather than heat to get creases out which is much easier and effective than my ham fisted attempts with a normal iron!
It is very expensive for an iron though but perhaps people thatiron very often would find it an acceptable price. Saying that it might have ruined me for other irons forever!

"Steamy!…"
11-Dec-2012
There was nothing at all wrong with this iron. It looks good, feels solid and irons well, which is what you want. However, there is a LOT of steam. Obviously this is what makes it so effective, but it also means lots of refills, and a very steamy house (also not good for hair which goes frizzy in humidity!)
Also, worthy of note is that the iron is larger than most other models and substantially heavier, especially when full of water.

"Easy ironing - no more excuses…"
11-Dec-2012
This iron looks good - it's quite big and it is heavy - but that's what makes it powerful, it presses down on clothes perfectly and means that whilst yes it's heavier to pick up, when you are gliding it over clothes it is easier as you can just leave it to use its own weight.
it uses lots of water - I tend to do a bunch of ironing at once and it probably needed refilling a couple of times through the basket - not a problem though and wasn't hard to fill back up. If you were more on top of the ironing than me it wouldn't be a problem!
It's got no settings - which is great, I haven't got a clue what my cloths should be ironed at so it's perfect for me, the steams continuous so no need to worry about when to use it, there's the option for a bit more and I'm not too sure how much it helps or how useful it is but maybe if you were pressing fabric or something that would be helpful - for my clothes the normal steam is fine.
It's great as it irons everything - DP's black work trousers - No problem - no shiny anywhere
More delicate clothes - can iron without any worry.
I can just set my ironing space up and go through the basket as it is without having to worry about covering things to iron, or leaving stuff out.
The only negative is that it is quite pricey. I think it will last a long time so I believe it's probably worth it if you can make the initial outlay, we have a previous Phillips iron that still goes strong and it's about 6-7 years old now.

"Easy to use and looks lovely…"
11-Dec-2012
This iron is so simple to use, plug it in and go and no settings to worry about. The iron is really steamy which is good for the creases but needs refilling often, it is also noisy. It is lovely to iron with and now I am used to it being heavier than my old iron I can zip through the ironing quickly and efficiently.

It's easy to use and great that we don't have to mess around with heat controls and such like. Not managed to burn anything yet which is a first for me!

Overall a pleasure to use. Idiot proof. You will never burn anything again. No need to sort your ironing out first. It gets through alot of water in order to produce alot of steam but it does a great job...noisily!

"Excellent results and no need to sort clothes…"
06-Dec-2012
Very good ironing results on all clothes. Great that you don't have to think about setting temperatures and therefore there is no need to iron clothes of the same fabric all together - a real time saver.
Only gave 4 stars as it's heavy and when hissing steam it was too noisy for me

"A novel sort of iron…"
06-Dec-2012
Not having to mess about with temperature settings does speed things up, and takes the thinking out of ironing.
It is very heavy though, even before being filled with water.
If I were buying a new iron, I'd probably go for a lighter model, and perhaps a rather less expensive one.

"Excellent compact steam iron…"
30-Nov-2012
I am really impressed with the iron. The lack of adjustment temp wise is a little scary to start with but it does exactly what it says on the can. It feels like a substantial piece of kit and the steam produced is much better than anything I have come across before in a compact iron.

"Straight forward ironing!…"
29-Nov-2012
I am not a fan of ironing, I only do it as it needs to be done. I found this iron to be a bit heavy but not too heavy to use. It does use up water at quite a rate but I used to use a bottle to squirt water on clothes with my old iron, so probably using the same amount of water.
It took a little while to get used to not having to turn a dial to get a hotter iron but it is very good, you can iron through the laundry basket however you like, with no worries about having to wait for it to heat up. I would be happy for my teenage daughter to use this, and she has used it once so far and would be confident to do it again.
At £120 this is out of my usual price range for an iron. I was lucky to be picked by MNHQ to review the product, and would recommend it to others.

"Heavy, too much steam, noisy…"
29-Nov-2012
Very heavy, gave me backache and condensation formed on my windows it produced so much steam. Easy to follow instructions, having never used a steam iron it was very easy to understand. Very noisy, didn't like the fact it kept on producing steam when I wasn't actually ironing clothes. Would be impossible to watch TV and iron at the same time.
It does iron clothes OK, but no better or worse than my current iron.
I guess overall I wasn't that impressed with it, not for £120.

"Easy to use, does the job well…"
29-Nov-2012
I don't enjoy ironing and I'm not very good at ironing - however, I'm also not very good at remembering my washing is in the tumble dryer and being quick enough to get it out so that it doesn't need ironing. I have tried to not iron clothes but just can't bring myself to wear, or put my children in unironed clothes - so ironing is a necessary evil in life.
I tend to iron once a week for a couple of hours at a time, so have a mountain to do at once but I find this less effort than pulling the ironing board out etc every day. If there is something half decent on tv its not too bad.
I have now done 3 mountains with my new Philips iron and I am genuinly very pleased with it - it is certainly much easier to use than my old one.
It is a nice size, comfortable to handle and not heavy (I have pathetic wrists and struggle with anything heavy). The electric cord is a good length which means I can use it in my favourite 'ironing place' without an extension cable - bonus!
The most impressive thing so far is it really doesn't leave shiny marks on clothes. I was a bit hesitant to try this out but ironed 2 pairs of black suit trousers on the outsides and was amazed that it didn't make them shiney! Fantastic not to have to iron things inside out and then go over the seams with a tea-towel to get the creases the right way round.
The only negative so far is how frequently the water chamber needs to be filled. I think I will need to start keeping a bigger jug of water at the side of me when ironing as I am back and forth to tap in kitchen much more frequently than with my old iron.
At £120 RRP it is probably about double what I would normally spend on an iron but I am so impressed that I can iron without making things shiney that I think it is well worth the money.
