"A billiant day out - we used to live nearby"
05-Dec-2010
A billiant day out - we used to live nearby and go often. Great rides- both scary & sedate, lots of animals kept in fairly decent conditions, a couple of good shows. A real treat and you can do it at your own pace, whatever the ages of kids are.

An excellent family day out, lots of excellent rides for kids and adults combined with a fab zoo. Don't miss the sea-lion show. Would highly recommend.

We used our Tesco Clubcard vouchers for a day out here - it was great! DD who was 6 and DS 1 enjoyed the smaller rides, and the zoo.
We took a picnic and enjoyed sitting on the grass with our food.
The Splash water area was fab, but the indoor soft play area was too hot!Read moreLessMumsnetter andyrobo237

"Afraid I have to disagree strongly with some previous posts"
20-Mar-2009
Afraid I have to disagree strongly with some previous posts - this park is great for a day or a holiday.
Theres a fantastic zoo and a very comprehensive theme park, with rides for all ages. They (still a family run business which I think is very important) tend to employ older people as ride attendants (especially on rides for the wee ones) which seems to be a winning formula as most are parents / grandparents themselves so understand when there are hiccups with the kids.
The younger staff are great too - dont forget to treat them how you would like to be treated - I've seen parents abuse them when their kids werent allowed on the ride because of size.
We've visited and holidayed there for a long time and I know the staff are very careful over height limits and saftey!
The toilets have always been as clean as possible when we went - sure on very busy days it may be hard to keep everything sparkling but they do try to keep on top of it.
The holiday park can get muddy in rainy weather but a pair of wellies soon sorts that out.
The onsite supermarket is reasonably priced (unlike Haven / Butlins) and stocks anything you may have forgotten along with long opening hours.
We love it and have had many happy hols with ages 3 - 84 and certainly will be back this year.Read moreLessMumsnetter michellew1

"We went out of season at the end of October,"
19-Mar-2009
We went out of season at the end of October, and the weather was kind. Although it is hideously expensive, our two boys are now at an age where is plenty to keep them happy and entertained. DH and I also really enjoyed some of the rides. One of the unexpected highlights was a 4d Giant screen film with interactive effects - and gave us all a chance to sit down for a while. I have to be honest - we took a picnic as theme park food is nortoriously vile. But if we had eaten there, there was a fish and chip restaurant and a pizza place which didn't look too bad.
My children are 8 and 11 - I don't think it's worth going unless your children are older or unless you take grandparents ofr someone to let you have a few rides. The zoo is ok, sealion show is lovely and the staff seem to really care and be knowledgeable about the animals there.
No wasps in October :) And hardly any queueing! And the staff seemed to be laid back, friendly and hellpful - not sure we'd have had as good a time in high season.Read moreLessMumsnetter mollyroger

ALTHOUGH WE HAD A GREAT TIME AND TOTALLY ENJOYED THE DAY WITH A SMALL FAMILY WHO CANT ENJOY ALL THE ATTRACTIONS WE LEFT FEELING A LITTLE RIPPED OFF - I THINK YOU SHOULD JUST BE ABLE TO PAY A LITTLE LESS TO JUST SEE THE ZOO AND BABY AREA AS LETS FACE IT WITH KIDS YOU CANT LEAVE THEM AND ENJOY THE RIDES YOURSELF!! THE ZOO IS GREAT AND THE KIDS LOVED THE ANIMALS AND BEEN OUT DOORS, THE FOOD WAS BASIC, CHIPS, HOTDOGS THAT SORT OF THING

"We've been to loads of themeparks in the UK, and"
18-Feb-2008
We've been to loads of themeparks in the UK, and this is the worst we've ever been to.
I did not enjoy our day at Flamingo Land at all, mainly because it made me feel like a dreadful snob. The queues were full of chain-smoking, bare-chested, tattoed chavs. The toilets were filthy, and I thought the safety checks were very lax. (I saw attendants allowing children "a bit too small" to go on rides. Also ds1 was old/tall enough to drive a kart, but not old/tall enough to not crash it badly - in a way that could have been very dangerous.)
Oh also the food was over-priced rubbish and there were wasps everywhere.
The one good thing was it's all-age appeal - the boys were happy to go off with dh and look at the cute animals, whilst I went on some of the big rides.
We used Tesco vouchers which made it quite cheap, but we still definitely wouldn't go back.Read moreLess1 person found this review helpful.
"I wasn't expecting to enjoy my holiday to Flamingoland. We"
22-Nov-2007
I wasn't expecting to enjoy my holiday to Flamingoland. We normally holiday abroad and it was a duty holiday with the in-laws... but we had a great time. The themepark is fantastic for all ages. We ranged in age from 2 to 60, and there was enough to keep all the kids excited, and enough to excite the adults when the grandparents took the kids! The onsite facilities don't rival other holiday camps such as Butlins, but the entertainment in the club was fantastic day and night. There is a really good supermarket on site, laundry facilites, leisure complex with heated indoor fun pool, and a chinese takeaway. The themepark had above average restaurants and great shops. The local village is a 10 minute bus ride away. The best bit though, was the caravans, which meant we could stick to nap times, and normal family meals. It really was a fantastic, relaxing and action-packed holiday. Another mention for the entertainment, which was fantastic.
