"The Horse Trust is in a lovely setting, with nice"
12-Feb-2012
The Horse Trust is in a lovely setting, with nice views and clean buildings. It's a great place for children, as they can stroke the horses, ponies and donkeys and the staff are very friendly and full of information. There are displays next to each horse to tell you about their background and characters and a visitor centre.
It's about 15 minutes drive to Princes Risborough for shops/cafes etc., or there's a nice cafe called Bon Ami next to Walters Ash village hall (about 10 minutes drive), which has baby changing and high chairs.
Admission is free, but they appreciate donations towards the horses upkeep.
In the winter it is only open on Fri, Sat and Sun 2-4pm (see http://www.horsetrust.org.uk/Visitor-info/ for details).
We went in winter and spent about an hour there, mainly around the courtyard, but I imagine it would be even better in summer, with access to the fields.Read moreLessMumsnetter Lachapma

"It's only open from 2pm - 4pm everyday apart from"
29-Jul-2009
It's only open from 2pm - 4pm everyday apart from Christmas. Over 100 horses, donkeys and ponies, some in stables and some in fields that you can go and see. It's all run by volunteers and donations, kept very clean, friendly staff and the horses like visitors. All the animals have either been mistreated or are old police/guard/trooping the flag horses.
It's free to go in but they do ask for a donation as it costs over £3000 per year per horse to look after them, most of the horses are old or have been very badly treated and require a lot of looking after.
Took 3 children 2,3 & 4 and they loved it. Was there for just over an hour. There is no place for picnics but they do have toilets and sell ice creams. You can't feed the animals because of their age, diet, condition but the animals are still friendly, less likely to nip as they are not looking for food.
If you're looking for a cheap lovely afternoon out this is the place to go and even if you leave a donation it doesn't cost much. There are a few local villages with cafe's that you could visit if you wished as well.Read moreLess1 person found this review helpful.
