"While on a holiday to clacton last week I took"
02-Jun-2011
While on a holiday to clacton last week I took the family on a trip to colchester zoo, although we have visited previously it never disappoints. Evertime we visit there are more animals and attractions added. The staff are helpful and friendly and there is an array of animals to see. Well worth a visit.

"DH,DD and I went to Colchester Zoo yesterday and had"
19-Jul-2010
DH,DD and I went to Colchester Zoo yesterday and had a lovely time. The zoo keepers were so helpful and even if you hadn't requested (and paid for)their time they would stop and give you information about the animals. Although it is expensive, £16.99 per adult free for under 3's there is alot to do and see and loads of play areas for the DC's. The only down point was the layout not being too clear and having to walk back on yourself to see all the animals (not bad for weight loss with all the hills though!!)
Definately recommend this day out although only a few times a year because of the cost althougth this can be eased by taking packed lunches etc.Read moreLessMumsnetter jenniebee

"I think Colchester Zoo is brilliant, there's plenty to see,"
16-Jul-2010
I think Colchester Zoo is brilliant, there's plenty to see, space to stop and have picnics and some activities such as panning for gold. The only thing is that it is a big zoo and you definitely need a whole day (if not longer!) to get around it all and little legs might start aching. Our favourite part is definitely having a go at feeding the giraffe and the elephant, kids love this part too!

"I thought this is a wonderful zoo. Okay it is"
08-Nov-2009
I thought this is a wonderful zoo. Okay it is not completely buggy friendly as there are steep hills and the food/drink is expensive and not special at all (in fact some of it is horrid). But they have done a lot of work on the zoo now and there are new enclosures and more on the way. There is also a lot of playgrounds for your kids to run riot in as well as an indoor ballpark for the tiniest ones. They do put on special events during the year, especially Halloween and Christmas (which is worth it as the kids get to see Santa in his grotto and get a present from him which is included in the admission). So bring a picnic, a three wheeler strong buggy, follow the yellow easiest route to avoid the steepest of hills and enjoy.

"I went yesterday for the first time with DH and"
23-Aug-2009
I went yesterday for the first time with DH and DD (10 mo). I found the zoo to be massively buggy unfriendly. There are some VERY steep slopes and ramps, some that have signs saying they are not suitable for wheelchairs. Some areas were off limits altogether.
I didn't like the way a lot of the animal enclosures just had tiny windows to see through, it meant that the animals were difficult to see.
After paying £15.99 each to get in and seeing more ice cream shops than animals, we both felt a bit ripped off and won't be going again.Read moreLessMumsnetter sweetnitanitro

"Fantastic. Been taking my son there since he was little."
25-Jun-2009
Fantastic. Been taking my son there since he was little. Now he is 4 he loves the different animals, finds the facts about the animals intesting and enjoys the play parks in each area and is old enough to use them all now. Brilliant whole day out and cost is not to much
