"Not very Disabled friendly…"
Went on a family day out in August 2012. 5 year old, hubby and I. I use a wheelchair and even though the Zoo if fabulous place to visit, you do need nerves of Steele while trying to tackle some of its steepness once inside. And as ever 'the public' are NOT disabled friendly either, I get a lot of tutting, people falling onto me or just stopping straight in front of my chair. This I no is nothing to do with the Zoo. The Zoo itself is a lovely day out whatever the British weather throws at you. And they also seem to be changing in closures to making it bigger
And better.Read moreLess

While on a holiday to clacton last week I took the family on a trip to colchester zoo, although we have visited previously it never disappoints. Evertime we visit there are more animals and attractions added. The staff are helpful and friendly and there is an array of animals to see. Well worth a visit.Read moreLess

I think Colchester Zoo is brilliant, there's plenty to see, space to stop and have picnics and some activities such as panning for gold. The only thing is that it is a big zoo and you definitely need a whole day (if not longer!) to get around it all and little legs might start aching. Our favourite part is definitely having a go at feeding the giraffe and the elephant, kids love this part too!Read moreLess
"I thought this is a wonderful zoo. Okay it is…"
I thought this is a wonderful zoo. Okay it is not completely buggy friendly as there are steep hills and the food/drink is expensive and not special at all (in fact some of it is horrid). But they have done a lot of work on the zoo now and there are new enclosures and more on the way. There is also a lot of playgrounds for your kids to run riot in as well as an indoor ballpark for the tiniest ones. They do put on special events during the year, especially Halloween and Christmas (which is worth it as the kids get to see Santa in his grotto and get a present from him which is included in the admission). So bring a picnic, a three wheeler strong buggy, follow the yellow easiest route to avoid the steepest of hills and enjoy.Read moreLess

I went yesterday for the first time with DH and DD (10 mo). I found the zoo to be massively buggy unfriendly. There are some VERY steep slopes and ramps, some that have signs saying they are not suitable for wheelchairs. Some areas were off limits altogether.
I didn't like the way a lot of the animal enclosures just had tiny windows to see through, it meant that the animals were difficult to see.
