What a fab day we had! DS is 20months and loved the animals. We had a picnic on the lawn which was packed but all very child friendly. The car parks were full, but we found a free space along the roadside. The facilities were excellent.

I love Bristol zoo. There are lots of animals with plenty of links to conservation projects throughout the globe. They have lots of research projects at the zoo that you can read about and witness, like the amphipod (devoted to breeding frogs). Talks happen throughout the day too as well as obligatory feeding times. Fabulous elements such as walking under the penguin and seal enclosure, walking through the Lemur enclosure and watching the growing family of Gorillas makes this zoo very special. There are two animal shows a day on the large green near the indoor animal encounters. The shows include animals doing what they do best, not performing like humans!!
To let the children let off steam there's the fantastic new Zooropia which is an aerial course(involving rope!) a water splash zone and a park for all ages.
In the summer there's also a little train to see the zoo and for all weather there's an activity centre.
There's enough to do to spend the day there, but I would recommend a picnic on the large green or many tables/benches dotted around. The food is very pricey, slice of cake is nearlyRead moreLess1 person found this review helpful.

We had a lovely day out here recently.
It was compact enough to be able to get round in 4 or 5 hours but still lots to do. Ds particularly enjoyed the water exhibit.
We picked up a leaflet locally too giving us a free childs ticket for better value for money too.
It is a shame it is so far away for us as we have all said we would like to go back. Maybe next time we are in the area!Read moreLess1 person found this review helpful.

I love this zoo! Our nearest zoo is Marwell Wildlife Park which is nice but there's something quite magical about a city zoo like Bristol. It used to be a botanical gardens and it has a real buzz about it. Plus a gorgeous aquarium and gorillas. Food is pricey but it's lovely to picnic on the green. The water play area is a stroke of genius, you can let your baby or toddler really get wet and have fun - bring spare clothes! Marwell annual passholders can get in free too!
