We went here with our 5 yr old son,it was brilliant. The cafe on the ground floor was clean, modern & reasonably priced although there is also an area upstairs for people bringing their own food.
It wasnt very busy when we went so we could wander round at our leisure & my son loved looking at all the insects,he especially liked it when i walked underneath the giant spider on the ceiling & pretended to scream.
There is lots to do for all ages of children & the staff were really helpful.
We got the train in as it is literally a 2 min walk from Lime St Station.Read moreLessMumsnetter DoingTheBestICan

Fantastic museum for kids of all ages, loads of activities and plenty to see. Can get busy at weekends / holidays. Tip: when busy the wait for the lifts can be long so ditch your pram/pushchair at the clockroom and take a sling if you have a baby with you.

Fantastic. Especially for kids. All free. Lots of historical stuff (mummies, dinosaurs etc), lots of bugs and unpleasant creatures that kids love. Quite a big place. Coffee shop with great views. Modernised a few years ago. Planetarium. Also next to one of best art galleries outside London. The Walker. Fantastic for Pre-Raphaelites and modern work and art for children. New museum opens on waterfront soon but keeping this one. Also Maritime Museum at Albert Dock.

a must for a great free day out. Interesting selection of artifacts from Egypt, China, Tibet, world culture. A fine exhibit of the jungles of the world. The museum is always evolving and is stimulating for everyone. The planeterium show is a must my sons loved it.You have to get your free tickets from the ground floor for this. The aquarium is beautiful.
