"We love it here and go very regularly. It's free!!"
09-Apr-2012
We love it here and go very regularly. It's free!! Even the paid for exhibitions are good value, but there is plenty to do without going into them (but do try to catch the butterfly house over summer if you can). Combine it with a trip to the next door Science Museum for a whole day out.

"I am honestly surprised this is not on a leading"
15-Nov-2011
I am honestly surprised this is not on a leading position! This is the best one in LOndon! My toddler loves it and she asks to go there almost every 2 weeks if possible! When we go there we enter from the other entrance, where usually there is NO QUEU! We go straight to see the dinosaurs and the Earth display is breath taking too! Just enjoy the day there!

"A great day out, we got there early to avoid"
01-Nov-2011
A great day out, we got there early to avoid the queues. Good picnic area in the basement and next door is an area where children could handle exhibits and look at them under microscopes.

Very busy this time round (last Sunday of the holidays) but well organised and very enjoyable. Fab old building too and I love the picnic area in the basement.

"I'd forgotten how wonderful this place is? never knew pterodactyls"
29-Dec-2010
I'd forgotten how wonderful this place is? never knew pterodactyls aren't really dinosaurs but the National History Museum put me right.
Only had time for the dinosaurs and a bit of the bugs (leaf cutter ants yay!) will definitely be heading back next time we go to London.Read moreLessMumsnetter Slubberdegullion

"We love this museum and have been a number of"
04-Dec-2010
We love this museum and have been a number of times, it can get really busy, a good tip is to get there about 15 minutes before it opens that way you can be one of the first in. Avoid eating at the museum as the food is very expensive and is not great quality, there are lots of better places locally to eat.

"Surely the queen of all museums: why are there so"
25-Jul-2010
Surely the queen of all museums: why are there so few reviews on here. TOP TIP if you want to see the dinosaurs, get there early and go to the dinosaurs first. We did the tour of the new Darwin section last year, which was fantastic. Don't miss the earthquake section and so on upstairs too.

"A fabulous and free day out in London. What more"
03-May-2010
A fabulous and free day out in London. What more can you ask for?
I've been so many times and still don't feel like I've seen it all. The Creepy Crawly Gallery is the best one I've found so far for very young children (lots of buttons and yucky bugs). It is enormous inside so even in the midst of the school holidays you can always find a reasonably quiet gallery to let the kids wander around.
I've never made it into the dinosaur walk as the queues can be long. If there is a big queue at the main entrance, cut down Exhibition Road (follow signs to the Science Museum) where there is a secondary entrance and hardly ever a queue at all.
I would never eat in there as food is so expensive (£1.30 for a bottle of water, £2.35 for some mango crisps) plus there are so many more exciting eateries nearby (I love GBK on Old Brompton Rd and Ben's Cookies in South Ken station).
Entrance is free, so you don't feel pressured into staying in there all day and tiring yourself out by visiting every single gallery.Read moreLess1 person found this review helpful.

"A great day out, the dinosaur as you walk in"
12-Aug-2009
A great day out, the dinosaur as you walk in is amazing. Although the food is very expensive so I'd receommend you to take your own food or find somewhere to eat other than at the museum.
