"As a local you don't often do the tourist thing"
04-Mar-2012
As a local you don't often do the tourist thing in your area, so DD [10mo] DH & I did parts of Bristol as a tourist and the SS Great Britain was one of the attractions that interested us.
Ticket Prices were high but they are valid for a year. We had a buggy with us on the day and found the accessibility brilliant, lifts to go below the waterline and around the ship.
Lots of interesting information on the history of the ship, places it went, cargo it carried down to it's years in the faulklands. Around the site are places you can stamp your ticket, as though you were a traveller, good for the littles.
The cafe was reasonably priced for Bristol and the slice of cake served both of us quite happily.
Location was great as it's a stroll along the harbourside to the M Shed and the Watershed, @Bristol etc.
Car Park was nearby and not too badly priced for Bristol.
There is also the harbourside taxi's that are great to get you to the cumberland basin, temple meads or watershed depending on the boat.
One thing I would say is that you do have to go on the upper decks of the ship to access the ship levels, which is outdoors. The day we went it was light showers so we had to duck and dodge our way about.Read moreLessMumsnetter kellestar

"A really good day out. Plenty to see with a"
28-Sep-2010
A really good day out. Plenty to see with a big museum as well as the ship itself. The guide book has suggestions of what to prioritise depending on how long you want to spend there.
It's easily accessible with pushchair/ wheelchair and has stuff especially for children.
The ticket lasts for a year, so although it isn't cheap it is good value.
We tied it in with travelling on the harbour ferries to make it a really enjoyable day.Read moreLess2 people found this review helpful.

"Brunel's SS Great Britain is an award winning visitor attraction"
26-Jul-2010
Brunel's SS Great Britain is an award winning visitor attraction and a great day out. There is a plenty to keep children entertained including things to touch and try. Family friendly with plenty of toilets, a visitor centre and cafe. There is a public car park adjacent to the attraction. Children under 5 get in free. All tickets include free return trips for a year.
