"Great free place to wander and enjoy with small children…"
The Bristol museum and art gallery has an old fashioned feel with a modern outlook. The building is dramatic with sweeping staircases and marble expanses, and has a quirky historical collection of every stuffed animal you can imagine, a gypsy caravan, a crystal collection with information on local geology and mining, and dinosaur skeletons and bones. They have a play area for very small children, and some activities such as brass rubbing or quizzes stationed around the museum. They hosted a Banksy exhibition which had queues stretching halfway across Bristol, and have retained a few elements. In the past they have also hosted the wildlife photographer of the year exhibition in January. Check ahead for special exhibitions, but the museum is basically free (donation box for your support) and welcoming. Just a short walk from Park street and the Triangle, with nice shops to explore and lots of cafes and restaurants including Browns, Boston Tea Party and Pizza Express.Read moreLess
"My 5 year old daughter absolutely loves it here and…"
My 5 year old daughter absolutely loves it here and wants to return again and again. There is a lovely play area for children called Curiosity, as well as interesting exhibits in the museum itself. My daughter especially loves the gypsy caravan and the dinosaur section. I always enjoy the wildlife gallery and the minerals.
One criticism I have is that some of the interactive stuff for children hasn't worked for a while, but hey, it's still free, fun and educational!Read moreLess
