"We took our three month year old on a Sunday…"
17-Mar-2010
We took our three month year old on a Sunday for a few hours. The house was closed but the gardens were open and they had a magical snow drop trail. It was excellent walking along the marked paths but had to be done with baby in the sling which wasn't a problem. There is an old ice house which is very interesting to look at, and a little chapel which was very quaint. The picnic area was very well presented and I can imagine that in the summer this would be a lovely area to go. We did take the buggy in with us and pushed him on the established paths which was very easy, but to fully enjoy the experience it is best to have a carrier. If you take older children the grassed areas are lovely to play on, with some children throwing a ball and no one complaining. The stream and water gardens is magical and I think if you can tell kids about the fairies, they will be in awe. There are plenty of trees to climb but obviously supervision is very important. The walled gardens were closed and I would love to see them in the summer. We are national trust members so we did not pay, but being objective when it comes to value for money I would suggest that families should go when everything is open and fully enjoy everything there is to offer. This is a place to go for people with imagination as there are no climbing or play parks but there is plenty to discover... and the cakes are absolutely gorgeous!!!
