Cotehele house is a large Elizabethan estate owned by the National Trust. The house itself has lots of interesting rooms, with a small spy room to look into the chapel, and spy holes to look into the great hall. The great hall fascinated my boys with all the spears and guns on the walls.
There are lots of walks in the gardens and woodland areas.
Then there is a quay with an ice cream shop.
Walking further through the woods you cross over a river and get to a working water wheel, blacksmith (smoky fire), carpenter and saddler shop. The boys found all the old machinery fascinating and had a go at grinding some corn.
A very full day out with plenty to see and do.
There is a restaurant in an old barn which although has several steps down into it I found the staff only too willing to help out, and they had a selection of colouring pages etc for the children.Read moreLess
