"OK, these do cost £££, but they really are worth"
27-Jul-2010
OK, these do cost £££, but they really are worth it, honest. We've been out twice on 4-hr trips with the family and are very keen to do the full day whale watching trip next year.
There are plenty of staff on the boats and the focus really is on spotting wildlife and ensuring everyone has a good time. (We've been on "wildlife cruises" where there's just been 1 or 2 members of staff and you barely get to see anything.)
We've seen with them minke whale, harbour porpoise, sea eagles, golden eagles, seals - two types, gannets, skua, manx sheerwater, guillemot, etc. Obviously it's wildlife so nothing is guaranteed (except the seals), but sometimes they see basking sharks, or dolphins, even Orca occasionally!
The knowledgeable, helpful and friendly staff gave us lots of information. They even got the children fishing for plankton and taught them all about it. At one point ds2 dropped his £2.99 Tesco binoculars overboard, and a member of staff lent him their (extremely nice looking) pair of binoculars. That did not help me relax!
So if you're going to Mull, start saving up for this trip, you will remember it forever.Read moreLessMumsnetter roisin
