Great day out for young children.
In house cafe is poor so take advantage of the local resturants.
It's expensive so make sure you use a buy one get one free voucherRead moreLessMumsnetter shazzie19

My 3 loved it, a great place to take them when the weather is bad. Staff were really friendly and nice. Although it was quite expensive.

We took DS for his third birthday and had DD age 3 months in the buggy too. Birmingham Sea Life Center is not huge but is just big enough to hold the attention of a pre-schooler all the way through. Really easy to negotiate with a buggy. We particularly enjoyed the underwater tunnel and the mirror maze and there was a staff member who brought out crabs and starfish to stroke while we were there too. We missed out on the ray tank unfortunatly as it was being upgraded. Would echo what others say about food - don't eat inside, the food is apparently beyond dire but step outside and you're in Brindly place which is bursting with lovely places to eat.

Great fun! Lots of interesting species and displayed in creative ways. Buy your tickets online in advance and you won't have to queue. We got an advance booking discount too. It is pushchair friendly but has lots of winding corridors so I found I had to ensure that DS held on to the pushchair which he wasn't so keen on. Lots of tanks at pushchair height so you don't have to keep lifting them up to see the fish. It's always been very busy with school trips when I've been there so again booking in advance is a good idea to avoid a long time at the reception desk. There's a 3D experience thing but we didn't go in that as it wasn't suitable for the age of my DS. Great underwater tunnel where sea turtles fly overhead. Baby changing facilities weren't overly impressive, bit smelly and unclean. Also we didn't stop at the cafe as it looked a bit like a greasy spoon. There's loads of better eating options near Brindleyplace anyway.

"We took children aged from 2 to 6 to the…"
09-Aug-2009
We took children aged from 2 to 6 to the Sealife Centre on perhaps the busiest day of the year. Due to the terrible rain, the queues stretched around the corner and the Sealife staff made life a lot easier by coming out with rainproof ponchos and chocolate buttons.
Inside, the children loved to see the fish but highlight of the day was seeing the wetsuit clad divers in the big tanks.
We heard rumour of a play area somewhere but we cleverly avoided it.
It isn't a place to spend more than a couple of hours, but we wandered around the canal system afterwards, window-shopped in the Mailbox and played at weather forecasting in the BBC studios. Great fun, and free!
Lots of food places outside Sealife, so don't bother eating inside.Read moreLess2 people found this review helpful.
