""Fun-packed superhero thrills .…"…"
Book Review: 'SUPERTATO', by Sue Hendra. 07/11/2014
A bright, colourful adventure starring the latest Sue Hendra creation (following characters like No-Bot, Barry The Fish With Fingers and Norman The Slug With The Silly Shell). The author is clearly cashing in on the current super-hero craze. The characters and concept are not exactly original, and it isn't just someone who's grown up on comic books who'll say this. The arch-nemesis, revealed as a pea, even comes complete with the trademark insane super-villain laughter (i.e. 'Mwah ha ha ha!'). However, the characters and story are nevertheless charming. The aforementioned pea escapes from the freezer cabinet and terrorises the other vegetables. It is left to Supertato to bring the crafty perpetrator to justice. But the job is far from being a simple one. Will he succeed?
Good Vs. Evil!! The hero in peril!! A chase to the finish! And a twist at the end! Classic ingredients of any superhero action-adventure. In conclusion, the author has constructed an energetic read which proves to be perfect for pre-schoolers & reception pupils.Read moreLess

"An exciting read!…"
I received this before the summer holidays, so I didn't get a chance to read it with the children at work (preschool) - but I have now, and they loved it! Even the fidgeters sat still and listened. There were gasps, shouts of "Oh no!!" and applause! I have had a lot of requests for repeat readings too. It's very popular!Read moreLess
I received this book from the Mumsnet giveaway.
When I first received this book I couldn't wait to read it and the shiny bright cover really attracted me to the book despite the fact it was a little unusual to see a potato being a superhero. I remembered reading Barry the Fish with Fingers so I had high hopes for this book.
The book is about Supertato who helps out the food in a supermarket after the peas have been up to mischief since escaping from the freezer.
When I first read this book I thought it was a really strange concept for a story and others I showed the book to agreed it was a bit strange but the children that read it loved the story and thought it was very funny having a potato save the day. To start with I didn't fully understand why the peas would do something like that but with the point made at the end that they were up to mischief because they were not frozen I thought it was a clever idea.
I think it is written well and is a good length and easy to read making it great for younger children, I have always preferred picture books to rhyme but I think how this was written was perfect for the story.
The illustrations in the book are fantastic and the children really loved how they were so detailed and brightly coloured. I think the last page if the book was brilliant with all the unfrozen peas hiding all over the page and giving the children something to search for.
Overall I think this is a very good book, a little different to typical stories but brilliant nevertheless.Read moreLess
