"Lovely fun book…"
My little one loves this. Very suitable for boys and girls. Introduces a little bit of French, encourages imaginative thought: 'a dinosaur, in a bath, really?' All in all, a lovely book with great, colourful pages.Read moreLess
Great, easy to read story with beautiful & creative images throughout the book. Perfect for little ones that do French at nursery!Read moreLess
"A different, but exciting read for young ones.…"
"There's A Dinosaur In My Bathtub", by Catalina Echeverri, stars Amelia, a little girl who has a secret to share. She has found a French dinosaur called Pierre in her bathtub. Although Amelia is worried her parents will discover her new friend, she finds that he is incredibly good at hiding. The book then changes direction as the reader joins Amelia and Pierre on their adventures, from drinking hot chocolate on the moon to sailing the high seas in their bathtub boat.
Catalina Echeverri's imaginative, bright and colourful illustrations help bring the story to life. However, one of the book's greatest strengths is that the story dares to be different. The prose is humorous and well-thought out, with the subtle use of French phrases introducing young readers to a new language. A criticism of the book can be the way the direction of the story abruptly changes from beginning to show different ways that Pierre disguises himself in avoiding detection to the many fantastical adventures that he and Amelia share. Reading this out aloud in Key Stage 1 provided the impetus for lively discussions between pupils suggesting the many other ways that Pierre could disguise himself - maybe it is the book that needed to do this. However, this is but a minor slight in describing an exciting and vibrant tale.
In conclusion, a very enjoyable read.Read moreLess
This didn't keep the attention of my two year old for very long so I took it into school for my class of 5/6 year olds and they loved it!
They laughed at every page and loved the illustrations as they brought the story to life.Read moreLess
My 3 year old daughter loved this book. She made a point of telling me so afterwards and asked for a second reading, which is the proof of the pudding! It was a nice quirk to have a few French words in the story (good talking point when reading) the illustrations were lovely and if I read it to her enough times, she may be the only 3 year old to understand the meaning of 'inconspicuous'! It was an enjoyable read for parent and child alike and good bedtime length.Read moreLess
"Lovely illustrations and story…"
Read with DS 4 who really loves the story and was hooked from the first page when Amelia asks the reader to keep a secret. Read many times and he always answers "yes" with a big grin! Illustrations are lovely and lots of detail to talk about whilst reading.Read moreLess
"Great fun and good for boys as well as girls…"
My son's never usually that excited by books with girls in, but this one he took to straight away. Having a french dinosaur is different to most books, and it brings a bit more french into the home, rather than just being something he does at nursery.
I enjoyed reading it to him as well - always nice to have something a bit different, plus a cheeky girl, and lots of different accents to read. Definitely a book we'll be turning back to time and again.Read moreLess
"Fun Fantasy for the under Fives…"
This was a great book packed with imaginative make believe based on a little girl who befriends a pet dinosaur which she keeps in the bath tub. It was ideally aimed at the 2-5 market, so my little girl loved it. The pictures were excellent, especially the giant ice cream. I will look forward to reading more from the author.Read moreLess
"Full of childhood secret adventures to get the imagination going…"
My just turned 3 year old was captivated on first reading of this book. The child in the story did all sorts of things she likes doing (dancing, eating ice cream etc.) with her secret dinosaur. Also liked the idea that only the child knew that the dinosaur was there... a bit mystified that he had to leave in Autumn.. Also would have preferred the dinosaur without a moustache.. as my little one kept saying but dinosaurs don't have hair... they also don't dance or hide in baths... but that didn't seem to bother her!!!...Read moreLess
"Weird and definitely wonderful…"
We loved this book. Pierre is a French dinosaur (you can tell he is French because of the moustache) who lives in Amelia's bathtub. No-one else can see him because he is so good at hiding. Together they have plenty of adventures, until it is time for Pierre to head home...
Lovely illustrations and a well told story. Highly recommended.Read moreLess
