"I loved reading this book in pregnancy - it is"
07-Jun-2010
I loved reading this book in pregnancy - it is a great light-hearted book which would complement a more fact-based book. What happened to the woman in the book happened to me during my birth so it was really helpful (but I'm biased!)

"Love this book! It was hilarious, honest and entertaining. Each"

Love this book! It was hilarious, honest and entertaining. Each week of pregnancy is made up of a fictional (but oh so real) diary entry followed by an informative bit. Definately recommend it!

I loved this book! A constance source of fact, humour and common sense, this book saw me through my whole pregnancy. I have now ordered the follow up book.
I'd recommend this to anyone.Read moreLessMumsnetter GreenWood2006

"I got A LOT of pregnancy books, and this was"
08-Apr-2009
I got A LOT of pregnancy books, and this was my absolute favourite. It's written in a practical, down to earth style, while being laugh-out-loud funny. It reassured me, and really cheered me up at times.
If you're my friend and you get pregnant, you can guarantee you'll get this as a present!
If you are thinking of getting this for someone who is very easily offended (e.g. by mild swearing) this is probably not the book for you, but otherwise, highly recommended!Read moreLessMumsnetter lowrib

"Together with its sister book The Rough Guide To Babies"
23-Mar-2009
Together with its sister book The Rough Guide To Babies And Toddlers, I only managed to read part of this before irritation at the author's didactic and strident style got the better of me. She obviously has a bee in her bonnet about 'yummy mummies' and ironically, in her attempts to be inclusive and non-judgmental about people's parenting styles, makes it quite clear that it's her way or the high way. Some of the advice was badly ordered, badly structured, or just plain wrong (I'm thinking in particular of the fairly damning and out-of-date chapter on real nappies in the Babies And Toddlers book, which would put anyone hesitant about using real nappies off them altogether.) Perhaps worst of all, she's not funny! Currently on my charity shop pile...

"I can't recommend this book highly enough! It's comprehensive and"
05-Feb-2009
I can't recommend this book highly enough!
It's comprehensive and informative but also just really funny, well written and down to earth. I learnt loads, but it also had me laughing out loud.
I read it myself while pregnant, and gave it to a friend who's pregnant. She thanks me for it every time I see her!Read moreLessMumsnetter lowrib

"I disliked Kaz Cooke's style of writing, but that's just"
05-Jan-2009
I disliked Kaz Cooke's style of writing, but that's just a personal thing. On a more serious note, I felt that the book's advice was often unnecessarily hysterical (and I don't mean funny). I read a number of other pregnancy books written by doctors which were considerably calmer and gave much more sensible, down to earth advice. Although the book has been adapted to suit the UK medical system rather than the original Australian, there are still some things which have not been changed which could disappoint a British reader (such as Kaz having the same midwife throughout).

"I bought this book before I got pregnant, as a"
17-Jul-2008
I bought this book before I got pregnant, as a way of sussing out whether I thought I wanted to go through with it or not. I found it highly entertaining and read it from cover to cover. I loved the mix of factual articles and diary style, and the funny little cartoons. I read it again as the pregnancy progressed, dipping in and out of the weekly sections. A great little book, simply explained, with all the aussie humour you need. Lots of useful addresses at the back too.

Fanstastic book. Kept me smiling through the nausea and ever expanding waistline. Just lent it to a pregnant friend who says it's the first time she's felt relaxed about her pregnancy in weeks. Highly recommended!

"I bought this with another book when I found out"
03-Aug-2007
I bought this with another book when I found out I was pregnant and I'm glad I did. It's an honest, funny account of the whole 9 months. What I liked most was the (sometimes shockingly) truthful account of the changes you'll go through. I've found that other books can be a bit sugar coated - Kaz just tells it like it is!
