I just wanted to say that although it was a few years ago that used this book on my then 'demon toddler' I found it extremely helpful. The main reason I bought it was the fact that my son would not stay in his bed. Having escaped from his cot at 9 months you can imagine what he was like in a bed. I was recommended this book by my then Health Visitor and I have to say that despite the comments below about the tying up of the door it worked!! He did still get out of bed but couldn't get out of his room he was safe so I didn't need to be near him so he could play on my guilty feelings . He would then eventually fall asleep on the floor and we would go in and put him to bed. Then after about 2 weeks of this we went up one night and he'd just put himself back to bed.
We had no troubles after that we'll at bedtime anyway lol. People said it sounded cruel but it was for 2 weeks and he's now a very well adjusted working 20 yr old man who can sleep for Britain!Read moreLess

Regardless of how practical/useful the advice is this is a great book for restoring parental sanity. Plenty of humour and "at least mine isn't that bad" moments. An absolute must for dealing with your ."mini mafia"Read moreLess

Comments from other Mumsnetters:
There was lots of praise for this "sensible," "practical," "realistic" book. "Not perhaps the most PC of books - but its no-nonsense approach helped me!" "It's split into easy reference chapters so you can access advice on particular problems - I've had the book in one hand and a screaming toddler in the other!" Plus there's "lots of advice on behaviour and lots of examples. There were some dissenters: "you simply cannot advocate smacking, however lightly, in this day and age." All appreciated the humour though: "Funny and gripping and good to find that there are worse toddlers than your own! "Read moreLess

If you're tearing your hair out shouting 'What are you doing?!?!?' then this is the book for you.
Great read and a gives you a good laugh when you're despairing about why your child is doing annoying things. Especially liked the introductory chapters which give survey results on what toddlers are like (e.g. proportion who are fussy eaters etc.). Helped me understand the motivation behind toddler behaviour which in turn helps you to control it or at least cope with it.
With regards to some of his advice - I don't think you should follow it religiously (same as for most books), but for common sense practicality and reassurance you can't do better.Read moreLess

"This is the book for all parents with toddlers.…"
This is the book for all parents with toddlers. It tells you what you need to know and is easy to use and concise. The book tells you how to handle everything from tantrums to toilet training, but most importantly that that 'weird behavouir' your toddler keeps exhibiting is actually normal. It made me realise that two year olds are just two year olds and that mum's are only human!Read moreLess

I did not like this book - the bit about tying up your child's bedroom door certainly in the edition I read is just ridiculous. In fact if you have a bad sleeper who doesnt want to go to bed there is little you can do about it if you believe the Child of our Time programm - some children's time clocks mean they like an early night others are the opposite. If you read Christopher Green's qualifications he is actually a doctor and not actually a psychologist I believe.Read moreLess

Absolute common sense and totally refreshing - really helpful and a reminder that parents are the ones in charge and more often than not you make the bed you lie on, so make it comfy all round. Light approach and humurous too.Read moreLess
