Comments from other Mumsnetters:
"I love this book because it's full of real life experiences.""It's like asking every person at the school gates or in the queue at Sainsburys what they do when X,Y,Z happens with their children without the embarrassment of asking a stranger." "I lost count of the number of times I said 'Oh what a good idea' and 'I never knew that' and I'm on my third pregnancy!" "Great advice and humour too - it tells it like it is." "Hugely reassuring because it's full of people like me, with children just like mine!" "The only parenting book I've ever bought - or needed!"Read moreLessMumsnetter RachelMumsnet

This is a fantastic book particularly for first time mums. Everything from colic through to just trying to get a newborn to sleep is covered and it's reassuring to read what other mums have done.

Excellent book - I have already loaned it to 2 of my friends who have had babies. It tells you the truth as it is from experience, especially about what to pack in my hospital bag (which I worried about for ages!!). Well done for being honest!!

"When I had my first two children mumsnet wasn't around…"

When I had my first two children mumsnet wasn't around and obviously neither was this book. So I stuck with the normal bring up baby books by health profesionals. I bought this book last year after having my third baby and oh my goodness its been a godsend. Yes the profesionals are good but who better to give advice but mums and not advice from just one person but real life advice and experiences of many people. Because the advice is from REAL mothers who have been there done that it gets down to the gritty truth of raising babies. I personall adored the breastfeeding section as I was trying desperatly to breastfeed my little one and thought I was getting it so wrong but comments from some of the mothers in the book showed me that I was not doing it wrong, as they had described what I was going through at that moment, to also let me know that they had gone on sucessfully to breastfeeding for a long time. The book covers many topics all that one could hope to be covered in a parenting book and much more....

I was given this book by a friend. Fabulous! The really great thing about it is that it recounts lots of different experiences with no judgements attached, which helps you to understand that there is no definitive right answer, just what works for you and your baby :-)

The whole truth and nothing but the truth!
I absolutely loved this book! It was how i found out about MN! I loved the fact it was real womens experiences, what really happens rather than what is supposed to happen. It is also a very funny and entertaining read. I referred to it over and over again during both baby-hoods and have passed it on to a friend who has passed it on to another! Brilliant book and worth every penny -A good price too!Read moreLess1 person found this review helpful.
