A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian Marina Lewycka

Recommended this book by a friend, but really couldn't get into it.

Surprisingly funny and tender. Centres around two daughters and their attempts to get rid of their aging Ukrainian father's new bint. Peppered in the plot - which is almost slightly farcical at times, the history of the family's experience of the second world war is revealed. It is this which raises the book above being just a light-hearted bit of fun to something altogether more thoughtful and compassionate.
