"Day bag size!…"
A lovely gift to receive. At times it was thought provoking and shocking in parts. It's amazing what can go on behind closed doors. A great read, although at times I don't think that every single person in the family could have so much bad luck. But I would defiantly recommend this book. A good readRead moreLess

"Brilliant, would recommend…"
I was captured by the story from the first few pages. It is a story of a family and their growing up and apart and captures each character really well, it has a sad and poignant storyline but the way it all comes together it is really well written. I would highly recommend.Read moreLess
"Enjoyable and thought provoking.…"
I wasn't sure what to expect as I haven't read anything by Lisa Jewell before but I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. The unravelling of the characters' secrets and then the understanding of their motivations was both intriguing and often incredibly sad.
The relationships between certain characters seemed to be contrived plot devices which forced the story to 'work' but apart from this little niggle it was a really enjoyable read.Read moreLess
"A good read…"
The book started slowly for me with the story going back and forth in time, but it gradually all came together. Upsetting at times I wouldn't recommend it to someone who has lost a relative/friend tragically. An interesting insight into hoarding from the hoarder's point of view and of the relatives, such frustration for them all. The three children all took a different path in life all getting away from the tragedy and their mother's hoarding.Read moreLess

"Made me cry on the train but in a good way.…"
What a fantastic read. Lisa Jewell is a great writer. The characters really come to life in this book, flaws and all. I found it hard to put down as the storybook cottage idyll and perfect family life slowly started to unravel exposing tragedy, grief and the way people cope (or don't cope) when the veneer of perfection is stripped away. A must read, although aspects were upsetting, this book stayed with me long after I finished reading.Read moreLess
"not wat i thought it would be…"
your introuced to the bird family. mum lorelei is what people would call a free spirit whose favorite holiday being easter organises a meal & easter egg hunt with great gusto every year, her 4 beautiful children & lecturer husband collin all living in a beautiful cottage in a country village. it all seems picture perfect but as you read you realise... perhaps not.
One year as the children are teenagers something happens, something so shocking that it affects each & everyone of them.
As the years pass you see how what happened affects each one of the bird family, but this book covers so much more than that.
i have actually never a read a book about hoarding so it was interesting to see how & why it can happen but also why the hoarder behaves in the way they do.
this is a great read not at all what i thought it would be going by the blurb on the back.
i will defo be going to read more of this author from now on thank you ms jewellRead moreLess
