I think this is Mark Billingham's best yet. His writing gets better with time and Rush of Blood sees him delving into new directions with a case about the kidnapping of a child in Florida.
The disappearance of a child from a holiday resort will be familiar teritory to some readers but Billinghams portrayal of typically British attitudes and behaviours in an alien environment is quite compelling. The story revolves around tensions which emerge between three British couples who have a case in common to discuss.... but when a trainee detective constable conducts some follow-up interviews with them for the Florida police the matter gets more complex.
I try so hard not to give anything away, as indeed does the author... so let me just recommend the read. If you are an MB fan you'll love it... if you aren't you'll probably love it too!
