This book was a fantastic read and I would thoroughly recommend it. It is so different to the usual true life stories.
The book is not only the story of an amazing and fascinating life but really made me think about the wonderful nature of destiny. I loved the honest style and the way the author took full responsibility for her life without apportioning any blame- very inspirational.
It is written with such amazing detail that it provided a backdrop and soundtrack that was so evocative of the time and place that it reading it felt like watching a film in my mind.It would be great if someone really does make it into a film.Read moreLess1 person found this review helpful.

A thoroughly enjoyable read and a truly remarkable story. One of those un-put-downable books! My dear old mum always said that everything happens for a reason and this story surely does back that up. I challenge anyone to read it and not feel overwhelmed with heartfelt emotion. It's a modern day fairytale which has the most beautiful of endings.

More than a Coincidence is not only the story of Mum and daughter reunited under exceptional circumstances, but is also the remarkable tale of a
life journey, it is a love story, an adventure and is so well told and observed that as the reader you wholly own it and buy into it; a testament to
the skill of Julie Wassmer's writing. The fact that this is also true and told unashamedly from the heart makes this book a very special find.
I read it over two days and thoroughly enjoyed it.Read moreLess1 person found this review helpful.

I couldn't put it down once I'd started. I come from the same background as Julie and the various descriptions of those days brought the memories flooding back. So well written and such a marvellous story....absolutely more than just a coincidnece.

A wonderful memoir book, funny, thoughtful and poignant. I too, read the book far too quickly, often with tears in my eyes, as I thought about the young girl's pregnancy, and the after years
Beautifully written and a joy to read, the coincidence was so amazing and uplifting, what a joy.Read moreLess1 person found this review helpful.

A marvellous book! Laughter and tears all the way. It's such a wonderful story that was meant to happen which I truly believe was more than just a coincidence. They say that Angels walk amongst us unseen, unheard. That particular day they did their very best to reunite this mother and daughter.

This is a great journey through east London and then west London from the 60s till the present and as well as her personal story we're treated to anecdotes some funny and some sad but always fascinating. The story is told without a trace of self-pity and with great honesty and it's a familiar one with many girls of her generation but hers has an amazing outcome. A really enjoyable read.

It usually takes me a long time to get through a book but I read this in 2 sessions! It's probably a cliche to say it, but this really is 'unputdownable'. It's the story of how a teenage mum gives up her baby for adoption only to meet her years later when the same girl offers her a cup of coffee in a busy office without either woman knowing who they are. But it's more than just the coincidence at the heart of the book that makes it a riveting read, it's a story of love, loss, reunion and redemption all set against a backdrop of time from the 70s to current day.The book also describes the suthor working as a writer on Eastenders, perhaps this is where she learned how to keep a story moving but it certainly did so for me - and my neighbour to whom I lent the book straight after. Be prepared for tears and laughter. This is definitely one for any mum's (or daughter's) book list.

Please read this book.
What a fantastic, insightful, inspirational true story. Julie's life from start to present day.
This lady can write, I don't know if it was just me or whether she can connect with anyone on many levels, but when I finished the book I felt that I knew this total stranger and so many things about her rang true with me.
So, with a title of 'More Than Just a Coincidence' this is quite amusing.
So pleased to have found this book, def my book of the year, lots to take away with me and I feel a better person for reading it. This sort of book only comes along once in a blue moon and the reference to Frost's the Road not taken was the icing on the cake.
Sorry for such a rambling review, but needed to share this book with anyone looking for a great read.Read moreLessMumsnetter rebeccamumsnet
