The Secret Scripture, by Sebastian Barry

Rather beautifully written and with interesting themes and topics.
Explored the power and abuse of the catholic church in Ireland alongside small town gossip, class and jealousy.
A poor ending to an otherwise lovely book.

Very, very good. Very emotional, made all the more shocking, as it could have been a true story. Set in the present, but looking back to Early 20th century Ireland,you find out how young woman ended up in an asylum, and is still there aged 100. Lots of good twists and turns, but without being sensational. Brilliant.
