(Published 12 Jul 2007) - I'm not normally a historical novel person but was totally engrossed by this novel and the details it described of the Crimean War (not an obviously entertaining subject matter!). It's a bit of a love story and a bit of a coming-of-age story and a bit of a mystery story. Really engaging and hugely enjoyable. My favourite read of the year.
