I loved this book. I was particularly taken by the characterisations of her lovely aunties.

I found the beginning of this book very promising and was looking forward to the rest of the book, but it soon became quite boring, I was hoping the end would be better but unfortunately it wasn't.

"I was desperately looking forward to reading this, having loved"
31-Jul-2008
I was desperately looking forward to reading this, having loved her first novel so much. It starts off as a very readable book, sets the scene well, introduces some very real characters. But then the story just doesn't really move. It's a very long book and I have to admit, when I got to the end, I felt very cheated. If you loved Secret History, I'm afraid you won't necessarily love this.

"I had such high expectations of this novel, as I"

I had such high expectations of this novel, as I loved 'The Secret History'. This book was such a disappointment though. I thought it lacked pace, and the characterisation was two-dimensional. I struggled to get to the end, because I didn't really care what happened to any of them.

Enjoyable and atmospheric, but nowhere near as brilliant as her first book "The secret history", which truly is a 10 out of 10!

Spellbinding from first to last page. Extremely well written - characterisation, storyline and structure all 10 out of 10. I could hardly put it down, even to go on mumsnet.
