Wonderful book. Grabs you from the first page and really touches your heart.
I am a book worm and it doesn't take me much to get hooked but I literally couldn't put this down.
It is about an island in the med where lepers used to be sent, and the prejudice they encounter. Sad but heart warming, makes you smile and cry in equal amounts for lost lives and loves.Read moreLessMumsnetter MadameCastafiore

Having heard mixed reviews of this, I didn't expect to really enjoy it. However, it gently wooed me. The setting was beautifully detailed and the characters were handled sensitively. An interesting, thought provoking read, which made me not want to finish.

A good read which gives a real sense of place - not just of Greece but also of the leper colony and the society beside it. Good and beleivable characterisation. The harrowing fact that this was based on a real situation was mitigated by the delicacy and love with which the characters were drawn.

A good read. Upsetting too as it is based on the true story of a leper colony on a Greek Island. However very well written and a nice story of family history and romance if you dont mind the sad bits interspersed. There is hope too though with a cure for leprosy in the story.
