"Great story, bad philosophy"
06-May-2012
I really enjoyed the story, the descriptions of Mumbai/Bombay, but hated the kitchen table philosophising. Those bits were usually at the end of the chapter and easy to skip, though.

"I enjoyed this book too but also found it extremely"
28-May-2011
I enjoyed this book too but also found it extremely drawn out in places. Although I would hate to put people off it I will admit to skipping several pages at a time ,particulary ' the meaning of life' conversations.
It does however keep you riveted as so much happens and you are constantly moved to a different setting as he experiences something new.
I loved the 'feel' of India he takes you on and I missed him when I finished reading!Read moreLessMumsnetter soah

"Amazingly interesting book a cross between a travel book and"
21-Oct-2009
Amazingly interesting book a cross between a travel book and an autobiography. The author, a convicted drug addict and dealer escapes to Bombay (Mumbai) from an Australian jail and hides in the slums of Mumbai. His descriptions of Mumbai are wonderful and you can feel, smell and see the colourful life of the people. He is self depreciating and very honest about his faults. He manages to turn his life around and grows to love the people of India.
