Papillon, by Henri Charriere

Fantastic. it is a long one at almost 700 pages but I could not put it down. It's an autobiographical account of Henri Charriere's astonishing escapes from prison after being wrongly convicted of murder. Numerous escapes, solitary confinement, life on the run and tales of the people he met along the way.

I found it rivetting and heartbreaking. It's filled with tension, high drama and adventure and is surely one of the most vivid stories of human endurance ever written.
