"Its one big book. I loved the pace of he"
29-Feb-2012
Its one big book. I loved the pace of he few hundred pages but the middle portion was very tedious and I skipped a lot of it. Also the writer kept talking about the riots and mayhem in Lahore and yet never mentioned the bloodbath of Indian Muslims not even in passing, seeing that the book is set only 3 years after partition. Also the talk of lower caste Muslims ... There is no caste system in Islam. Otherwise a good read.

"Excellent book. Very long though so can take a bit"

Excellent book. Very long though so can take a bit of time to get into but the way the different story lines emerge along with the history is done so well. Really beautiful and thoughtful read, I'll definitely read it again.

"Amazing. It is a very long book (over 1,000 pages)"
21-Jan-2011
Amazing. It is a very long book (over 1,000 pages) but it is well worth reading. Set in India after independence, the key plotline is the search for "a suitable boy" for the heroine of the book, a girl called Lata. It is a book that stays with you for a long time after you have read it.
